I had mypower steering go out on my PD4107. I was wondering if I would be able to swap a manual steering gear into this bus without too much trouble. Anyone done anything like this? I know most people might go the other way... oh well Thanks Chris |

Chris, I would fix the power steering. I would kill to have power steering on my 4107. Well maybe not, but I sure would like to have it. What went wrong with yours? No matter what it is, I would fix it before going back to man power steering. Don 4107 |

Chris, I agree with fixing the PS. My 4107 doesn't have power steering, and that's on the list - even though I'm expecting a bill over 3K for a retrofit. Transits didn't have power steering when I drove, and it was no big deal. The 4905's did. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference when I bought the 4107, but two things make it significant. I'm not in my 20's any more, but, more importantly, the way we use our coaches takes us into more tight spots and unfamiliar territory (corners) than on linehauls. I simply can't turn the wheel fast enough, with enough muscle, to put the coach precisely where I want it. Arthur |

chris:::: don't even think of driving a coach without power steering. whew what a tireing job. when you get there all you will be able to do is REST,and lots of it. Your problem may be as simple as the pump itself, filters or the gear that drives the pump. check it first and then go from there. |

Chrie, I agree with the others. Even though my 4104 only has power assist I hate to think about manual steering in parking and tight spots. Power assist means that I really have manual steering on the highway but that is not a problem. At slow speed is where the problem starts and I am an old guy so I need it. |

The only reason I am going to do this is $$$ I just don't think I am going to have the money to fix all the power steering stuff. It looks like on the front end that some stuff has literly blown apart. 2 owners before me had the pump taken off and a block off plate added. It was in the budget to fix this stuff but my friend who was suppost to go in half on the bus with me back out and moved away and left me stuck with the bill. |

chris; try to find out what blew apart and then get back on line BNB of course and there will be somebody with left over part that need to move them at a resonable cost to you. if you can download some pictures that would help. gomer |

Chris - You can put manual steering back into your 4107, but the cost is probably going to be greater than fixing what you've got. Besides replacing the box on the axle itself, you'd also have to change the box at the bottom of the steering column - there's a different one used on the non-power coaches. Take some pics, if possible, of the problem, so that more help can be given. FWIW & HTH. . .

Just changed my profile, now we got a picture also of my new to me toy. Some people might say a step back, but she is fully finished. A 1960 MC1. Only 17 were ever built. There is at least one other that is being used by an uncle of George Todd. Got it home a couple of days ago from Kelowna B.C. Joe. |
