I have one oval panel on each side behind pilot and passenger about 5 x 7 inches that are starting to break out looking verys bad, what are they and how could they be secured. Do I have to break them clear out and then glue back in or what. Thank everyone very much 4905 larry

Do you mean the vents in the outside of the body? Just above the floor level?

Glen that must be what they are, they were covered with bondo before my time. They are about stripe level on your picture about over chassis batteeries. Anyway the are both breaking out, seem to be semi secure, what a mess thanks larry

Yep, those were vents. Might be possible to get the old gaskets from Luke at US coach and use aluminum to make solid inserts. Or, just put a patch over each entire hole.

Glen Ihave no idea is there a inside rim the plate rides on? Maybe I could drill around the edge and put in rivets. No mater what I do won't look very good but better than break out. Thanks 4905 larry

No, there was no trim, but an angled duct used to go into the floor on the inside of the coach. As far as I can tell(and my bus is not here at the moment) it just was held in with a gasket similar to a window gasket. You could just put an aluminum plate over the existing holes with pop rivets - don't forget the calk first!

You COULD get some "Private Coach" (or if your coach has a name) plates made & put those over the vents.

If you are adding batteries in bay where ac used to be then these vents make nice vents for te battery bay

Sounds like your bus's previous owner did a marginal patch job. The vents were above the floor line. To remove mine I covered both inside and outside with a thin layer of glass cloth and polyester resin overlapping onto sanded steel 2" or as much as I could on the inside. The steel side panel they go through is about 1/16" thick, so After I glassed the inside, I filled the hole in the steel up to the outside level with bondo, then applied the outer layer of glass cloth overlaping all sides onto 2" of sanded bare steel. A topcoat of bondo feathered around the edges, prime and paint. These were among my first body patches, they've gone about 25,000 miles and are still undetectable.

Jerry the paint and roof lift were done in LVagas I think, the paint and clear coat were quite thin so the body repairs were the same. Other than that the rest of the conversion seem to be good. The conversion took him over 13 yrs so the coach sat in the sun a lot, I have owned for 3 yearsand the paint and cracks in the front cap seem to be the only real issue. Baring this I love the old girl and am enjoying the tinkering with her. You and everyone else are so helpful and have no problem passing along knowledge to keep me going. A big plus to all of you for your help. 4905larry
