Awhile back I replaced the ft brake control valve. Today I took the bus out and the left rear drive hub was hotter than the rest. I could tell when I started rolling that there was resistence and checked with laser temp gauge. Could this be from leaking brake can on that side or just inproperly adjusted brakes. New brake job awhile back. Thanks Phil

Phil, it can be alot of things - out of adjustment, hanging or sticking brake shoe, defective brake chamber or slack adjuster, collapsed brake hose, etc.
Needs to go over a pit to have a visual check first.Chock the wheels so coach cannot roll when you release the parking brake. Here's my suggestion:
Build up air pressure until you hear the air dryer purge, shut off engine, put some supports under the body, so it cannot come down on you, release the parking brake, get an assistant to apply the brakes, look and listen as you are under the coach at both rear wheels.Work safely.
Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Hello Phil.

By "rear drive hub" what did you shoot the temp of? The brake drum through the wheel hand holds, or the end of the axle, or?

How much difference in temp?

I would focus on the wheel end for starters, specifically that the brake adjustment is too tight at that wheel.

Taking the proper safety precautions regarding preventing the bus from rolling or crushing you...

jack the offending wheel off the ground and see if you can freely turn the wheel with the brakes released.

With a partner applying the brakes, measure the applied pushrod stroke to see how tight it is before you mess around. If the shoes are touching the drum when you tried turning it, consider if there is enough room left to back it off a little more and stay within compliance.

For reference purposes, most assemblies will not stroke much under an inch with a perfectly round drum, hardware centred and all parts in fresh condition.

The most you want the pushrod to stroke is dependant on your brake chamber type and size.

EG: DD3 2 1/4 inch,
Type 30 2 inch,
Type 24 1 3/4 inch

happy coaching!
