Almost done, I have installed a rebuilt 8V71T and RTO 10 speed in my MC-7 along with two extra radiators with electric fans, dual oil cooler and dry air filter. The air filter is installed above the lower side door, driver side at a angle that allows for removal thru the door. My question is for those of you that have installed this type of filter where do you pick up the air? I was thinking I would run the 6” pipe up into the area in front of the radiator where the rectangle pickup was. I would keep it low with a screen but am worried that I will be pulling too much air from the in front of the radiator. Any ideas? |

You certainly would want cool outside air and as high as possible |

On our MC-8, we cut an opening in the wall above and slightly forward of the radiator opening, just below the drip rail. We made a fiberglass box approx 12"x12"x 10" deep and installed it in the opening. We then ran a length of 7" stainless steel tubing up through the inside of the bus (hidden by a night stand and wardrobe inside the bus) into this box. In the engine compartment, this tube make a 180 degree turn and enters the filter from the bottom. The lower part of this 180 has a flapper vale to allow water to exit the air intake (if driving in hard rain. If you need them, I can take a few photos for you. We wanted the intake as high as possible to get cleaner air and as you mentioned, not to "steal" any air from radiator. It has worked great for us, YMMV Jack |

Larry Greyhound, running busses in the rural areas with some gravel roads had an external mounted duct on top with the intake about a third from the back, to ensure minimum intake of dust. Joe. |
