I am installing rooftop a/c units and want to install some additional framework to support the units. Any good ideas on how to put a slight bow in the square tubing I'm using to match the bow of the roof? MR |

You can cut slits in the tubing, bend it, and weld the slits closed again. Some time ago, there was a link to a Web site with pics of a jig someone made for bending square tubing. It made a smooth bend I believe. I think it was for an Eagle project. But it has been a long time and I don't remember who that was. Anyone remember? Scott |

Scott, Wasn't it Jack Conrad and Jerry Sojourner? Don't recall the URL for their site though. John |

We made a hydraulic bender to make a 6 1/2" radius bend. For a slight bend like you want, we took a 4x6 about 8' long. Cut the radius you want, lay the bottom part on the floor under the rear frame of bus. Lay steel to be bent on this piece, place other piece of jig on top of steel. Place a bottle jack between top piece of jig and bottom of bus frame. You are using the bus for a weight. As you "jack" bus, it pushed 2 pieces of jig together and bends the steel. If you need a slightly greater radius, place a piece of 2x4 on each end of bottom jig under the steel. I have bent 1 1/2" square tubing this way. Hope this helps, Jack |
