Does anyone have any experience with any of the portable air conditioners ? Some of the brands are Danby, Roam and Sunpentown. It just seems too easy a solution for spot cooling. The power consumption doesn't look too bad and they seem pretty compact. The exhaust vent could also go straight down into the baggage compartment or overboard. |

We bought one on wheels from Sears and tried to cool an 8' x 40' "Park Model" trailer when we lived in Lake Havasu Arizona. It never even made a difference before the overheat switch shut it off. Tried using a big swamp cooler to cool the trailer down to within the a/c's temp range, but it only ran a further 20 mins before shutting down again. So check the temp span it will work in and it may work in your area, but this one did not work in the heat. Ended up using a Walmart window air and that cooled the whole 40 trailer from one end. |

I was driving up the 101 thru LA the other day and passed a truck hauling a trailer with a big contraption about 8x10' mounted to it. It had three big holes in the side about 16" in diameter. The unit was labeled 'Studio Air Conditioning Rentals' THAT would certainly cool you down quick. But I am guessing it is not what you had in mind by 'portable' . . . : ^ ) Scott |
