We have a Norcold unit downstairs and it will not switch back to A/C power when supplied like it should. Works fine on D/C.

No parts available for this. I was wondering if I opened it up what I might find and is it possible to separate the two power sources to make that switch manual?

Just a guess, but maybe the compressor is actually 12 volt and when running on 120 AC, there is a converter to change the 120 AC to 12 DC? If this is the case, maybe a bad converter? Jack

Our Norcold Duel Electric refrigerator/freezer was killed this summer by a 240 volt mistake. The 12 volt continued to operate but the 120 A/C was fried. It has a seperate converter that provides 24 volt to the unit that had to be replaced. I got the part number from the manual and was able to find one through PPLMOTORHOMES on line. Cost $193.11 including shipping. Our refrigerator is only a few years old so I repaired instead of replacing the entire unit! Hope this helps, Denis

Debbie and Joe, many years ago, we had one of these on our boat that had the same system and had the same problem. It was given to me because the AC part wouldn't work.

With a little time and effort, I had the system open and figured out what burned up in the converter. The parts were readily available, so I replaced them.

We never had any other trouble with the unit, besides the outside of the shell rusting completely away.

It's possible that yours might be easy to repair.

For what it's worth.

Thank you all for your responses.

Jack you are correct about the 12 volt compressor.

Tom we think alike.

It has also been suggested to me by some other folks that have the same unit that running it on D/C keeps the bay that it is in considerably cooler, probably because the converter in it isn't operating.

If you really need to run it on AC, hook up an ammeter and see what it draws on 12 volt. Find a small 120 to 12 converter that has a capacity slightly larger than the compressor draw. Do you have an inverter with a charger built into it? Just run of 12 volts. When you are plugged in to AC, the inverter charger will continually replace the power that the frezzer is removing from your batteries. Jack
