I had to make these images quite small to get down to the size limit, but I need help on identifying the part that is missing from my jake brake.
![](http://www.busnut.com/bbs/messages/233/18953.jpg) In the second (close-up) picture it appears that there are spacers and perhaps a rod, bolt, pin or other device to act as a plunger to activate the jake. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks dg |

It looks like to me the rubber grommet that the elect wire goes through as well as wire to activate jake brake is missing. LarryH |

Thanks Larry, take a look at http://www.wheresdoyle.com/missing-pin-big.gif for a clearer idea. [Ian: I didn't know how to make this small enough to post here... Thanks] Is there a web source that has a diagram with parts numbers etc. for the Jake brake control for the 8V71N dg (Message edited by TexasBorderDude on September 20, 2007) |

Thanks, Tim I had gone on it and looked at their stuff, but didn't see anything (for the 71/92 series units) that looked like my setup. |

The actual Jake Brake solenoids should be activated electrically by a "buffer switch" that goes in the govenor. Jack |

Thanks to all... the guys at Fabco said that everything looked intact on the solenoids, elec. connections, etc. butt they said there is some mechanical linkage missing at the location I included in the photos. As best I can describe it there is a "U" shape bracket with the opening on the "U" facing West in the photo. The lower right corner of the bracket is at the intersection of the 2 black wires that cross just above the lift ring comming up from the bottom of the photo. If you follow the center line of that lift ring up to just below the radiator resivoir there is a shiny spot... the Fabco guys thought this was the spot where a pin would bear on. Anyone got an 8V71N that looks like this? Maybe you'd spot something missing in my photo. Thanks to all who have looked and replied. dg |

Ahhh, yes. I failed to mention it's an H740. I'll investigate further and try to determine just what this linkage is connected to. Thanks again Larry. |

Doyle Call Bill at U.S.Coach He helped me with mine in my 4905. It worked and then it died. He changed the pull soleniod and it works great. Chech the pull for voltage, needs to be 24 volt. all wires need to be checked for pinching into valve covers and make sure you have the large valve covers or it won't work. Mike4905 |

When you go to the Jake Brake site you can download a Manual for the 71's. (And all others too. Jack Hart |
