The profile picture shows my recently acquired MC1. Now before you start to chuckle, and think this thing is way too old and it should have been a 102 something I want everybody to know it came under rather unususual circumstances. In early august I looked at a 4104 in London Ont. BTW Roger Dalky also looked at it after me. We both took a pass on it. When I phoned the wife lamenting the fact that I had to buy a return ticket to get home, she mentions that a daughter of acquantentes of ours in Kelowna had a bus that they wanted to sell. So next trip of to kelowna and the rest is history as they say. The MC1 is one of only 17 made and has preserved rather well. It was updated in '95 with new aluminum skin replacing the stainles along with caps and full body paint. All or most of the work was done by Prairy Yacht in Lacombe Ab a firm no longer in business.

Tell us about it! What's the difference between the MC1 and an MC5?

The body of the 1 and 5 are very similar. My guess is that the windows are the same or very close to it. The major difference is that this one and I believe the 2 and 3 and perhaps the 4 also have the driveshaft go straight into the pumkin like a 7 or a 9 wheras the 5 uses a dropbox that has the driveshaft go over top of the rearend. Engine is 6V71 with 5speed synchro transmission.

Fifth is direct, and first is a fairly low 6.07 Not sure yet of the final drive ratio, but believe it to be 3.70. Not a powerhouse, but that is compensated for by a very acceptable milage figure.

We at Brewster's had MC1s, 2s and 3s in the early seventies. I liked the Courier 96s, MC5s and 7s better because they were more solid, less rattelly. Those 1s, 2s and 3s had front subframes that sagged. I remember driving them back to Winnipeg for rebuilding. Having said that, yours may be a really good one.

I'll bite....what kinda mileage are you getting?

I have a MCI5C also but have not had it on the road yet. I am having 2nd thoughts on it. I also have a GMC PD4104 that gets upwards on 8 MPG.

Bob
I have not driven it far enough yet myself to get a good reading, but the former owner said it was doing 10 mpg. Now offcourse that is imperial for us canuckies, but the equavalent would be about 8.3 US mpg. So it would be in line with a 4104 which you might expect, similar weight and HP. What I compare it to, is our old Winnie that got 8 3/4 keeping it at 55 which was 9 ft shorter and offcourse also weight a lot less. The penalty of an automatic in fuel usage 1-2MPG will become a larger factor the higher the price of oil goes. Currently we are paying 3.55 per US gallon, eventhough our loonie is slightly higher than your dollar.

Joe.
