Update regarding the 64 Flx I am looking at. I drove over to Alabama to inspect it and would like a little input before I decide on purchase or not. I am scheduling an inspection as well but I know there is a ton of Flx knowledge here that can also help. One of the issues that concerns me is the passenger side windshield has a crack in it and I know glass for a flx is near nonexistant unless someone on here can point me to a source. Second I crawled all around it looking for rust especially around where the suspension bolts up. The worst I could find was some just forward of the drive wheels about 4 inches in from the outer edge. Worst I could find overall was at the top of the bay openings in the steel stringers that run from the center of the coach. Engine is a 6-71 with roughly 40,000 miles on an inframe rebuild started right up and no smoke. Had a little bit of a lope at idle is that a concern with a detroit? Up until now I have owned perkins and cummins in boats and a lope on those would lead me to think a fuel filter was getting plugged. Needs to be replumbed and rewired and a lot of the cabinetry replaced....would almost have to treat it as a shell but that type of work doesn't scare me as I have rigged a lot of boats over the years. I do have a bit of a softspot for flx's though and am trying to decide how much of a project this will be. Here is a directory online of the photos I took. Let me know your thoughts http://members.tccoa.com/timb/Flx/ |

the lope doesn't bother me at all just wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem. I have scheduled a bus mechanic to go over it tomorrow so we will see what he has to report |

Corrosion is not too bad. Glass for that beast will be very hard to find......Dina Olympico was a Flxliner made under Lic...but when we did outr flx it took Several ( Many) to find a Dina windshield that would work.......thats alot of shipping back and forth costs. Lope is not an issue, lots od 6-71's do that cold whats the asking price on that. Have you checked www.sellabus.com for other flx options |

hey buswarrior; that is not a bd looking coach.I drove one like that in vvirginia and it had a 8v-71 in it and WOW it would not stall or slow down. I did see an MCI in the back-ground and wondered if it was for sale? I might go for the mci myself, however the flex doesn't look all that bad including the rusted places, ours was welded all over the place and when the guy sold it all that was left was scrap metal lol |

As far as I know the other coaches are not for sale. The Flx is sitting in a charter service lot |

Nice looking bus.....All I know is what I've been told. Expect that the problems (rust) you don't see on inspection to be 4 Xs worsen than what you see. |

Tim, if it lopes at cold start, but gradually stops after about 30 sec to 2 minutes, the governor is JUST RIGHT! The lope is caused or supressed by a buffer spring adjustment on the gov. A little lope means you have the governor as responsive as it can be without being unstable when warm. I like to hear it at cold start 'cause then I know it's adjustment is right. |

Well the mechanic could only find a couple of things so it looks pretty encouraging. It has a small air leak in one of the front pots, a couple of gauges don't work and it has a powersteering hose leak at the pump. The owner is going to have all repaired. |
