I ended up buying the 64 Flxliner from Marty this morning. All the inspections have checked out and she is good to go save two repairs that Marty is going to have done before I pick it up. It needs one new front pancake and a new powersteering hose. Now the REAL fun begins

Congratulations Tim and good luck. At least I have found a good community of folks here to help us uninitiated "busnuts" to avoid the worst of the pitfalls!

I agree. I have been a member of this forum for quite some time just soaking up knowledge. I can't wait to make it to one of the rallies

Hi Tim, I believe FMCA is having a rally on the Ga coast soon? For sure, Jack is having his Arcadia rally the days before New Years. There are hundreds of buses at Arcadia, Florida.
Gene Lewis and Darrell Passer are having a rally at Fayetteville, NC May 16-18th, 2008. We'll be there on the 15th.
Rallys abound...you may want to check FMCA's calendar and see what the "SE Cruisers" are doing.
Best, JR

For your first rally, I would not recommend the full FMCA rally. It is a madhouse of thousands of RV's with very few bus conversions. I attended one and was really disappointed. Wait for a group like SE Cruisers or better yet, Jacks rally in Arcadia at New Years.

The smaller bus conversion gatherings would really be the way to go. I agree with Richard. It will afford you more time to focus on making friendships and busnut talk.

One more thing, if there is no bus get together in your area start one. I did and I will do it again next year. What a fun time we all had.

What I had in mind is the SE Cruisers...which are a chapter of FMCA. They had a get together this weekend at Hoboken (sp?)Ga?
They are bus converters..primarily.
As Richard and Paul say, the smaller rally like the above would be ideal.
You don't want to go to a Major Mojo FMCA rally such as was held in Charlotte last year. Those are not bus conversion friendly. They are friendly enough as a group, but the group is huge. There may be miles of motorhomes with a few bus conversions here and there.
There are different groups of "conversions" too. Folk in late factory Prevosts are not 'bus conversion' people.
You seem to be in Ga, so the SE Cruisers would be a good place to look for gatherings.
Arcadia is two months away and would be large, but ideal as it is primarily converted buses. Nicest bunch of peoples! Arcadia has everything you'll want to see. And a few buses you won't want to see. That'll let you rule out what you don't want and focus on what will work for your conversion.
Try: http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/ They may be able to get you on their mailing list.
And, watch the boards. There are several rallies on the Right Coast that will begin in the spring.
BTW, Arcadia is the few days preceeding New Year's Eve. Between Christmas and New Year.
The two major Bus BBs both have event schedules for upcoming events.
Keep up with them.
Enjoy your new toy! We have surely enjoyed our old MC9!

Thanks Amy. I think my wife may email you sometime if you don't mind. None of the local moms would really understand buying a bus and using it help you kids gain experiences.

I garuntee the whole family will gain "experiences" when traveling in a converted bus! You'll be able to write a book soon enough. It's an adventure.
Nice looking Flx! I reckon you've got the bus home now?
If it helps any, Moms typically are a little slow to come around on bus camping. Mine was.
Terri just couldn't believe that the butt-ugly bus I bought would ever be useable for anything other than a storage building. The short version, as it came together she became interested. Had to. I sold our 5ver. She's convinced now. Only way to travel!
Ya'll visit some rallys and mom will find out just how much fun a group of busnuts can be!
Hope you enjoy your new toy!

There are two groups in the southeast. There Southeast Crusiers and the Southeast Bus Nuts.
The Hoboken rally was put on by the SE Bus Nuts, that is our largest rally of the year. The president of the SE bus nuts lives in the Atlanta area and we have lots of other members in that area. To get more info on the SE bus nuts check http://www.southeastbusnuts.org/

JR my wife isn't hesitant at all...prior to this we have lived full time on two separate boats when we lived in Florida. I should be going to pick it up this weekend. I had to wait for a new pancake to be installed and a new powersteering hose made up and installed. When I was a kid growing up my family drove us all over the country in a VL100 so this seems really normal to me :-)

To what are you referring when you say you needed to wait for a new pancake to be installed?

Thanks for enlightening me.

I have never heard of them referred to as pancakes before. I have always heard them referred to as diaphrams.

It is very refreshing to see the Ladies getting involved, it's not just a man's hobby you know.
My wife really got more involved when we went to TBR 2007. She is more interested in our coach and also making friends with other folk we meet.
