Since I've been fulltiming it I've been wondering where I stand. I expect to cover about 15k miles per year at 6 mpg. I know I'm lugging around 50,000 lbs. which is equivalent to 16+ cars... so each would have to get 100/mpg to be just as efficient. Seriously, what's the CO2 tons for burning 2500 gallons of diesel? I'd be curious wheather I'm twice as big a pig as the average American household, or 100 times... or just what. Get out the slide rules and chime in! dg |

Check with the EPA. It might be an enlightening experience. Ed |

22.384 pounds per gallon http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/factors.html Although I find the whole carbon footprint/credit bit a scam that people are perpetrating on the public during the current global warming hysteria. |

Doyle Slide Rule. that pretty well dates you. My kids used to say "what's that good for" Carbon foot print? How much comes out of a volcano? After that whatever might be contributed by your bus prettywell becomes meaningless. Joe. |

Glad I didn't say "get our your abaci". I don't give a s$$$$t about global warming... the point is I'm curious what my footprint is vs a commuting dad who drives 1000 miles per week; has a soccer-mom wife who drives a 12mpg SUV; and lives in a 4,000 square foot home. I think I and my dog are doing the planet a favor by living in the bus!!! dg |

As someone who took environmental conservation in college in the last 10 years. Don't get wrapped around the axle about it. It is just the latest in a series of scare tactics to gain control of your lifestyle. It is junk science. |

Hello Doyle. Sean has done some figuring on this and commented recently, either here or over at MAK. By his calculations, full timing appears to be far less stressful on the environment than some of the more conventional ways of existing. He'll chime in when he sees this. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Actually, I would not have even seen this thread, if not for Buswarrior dropping me an email. That's because we are working 12+ hour days here in San Bernardino for the Red Cross on the southern California wildfire relief operation. I think the comments to which he is referring appeared on my blog, in this post: http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/2007/10/blog-action-day.html You'll probably not hear further from me, though, at least until things are winding down here. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

If you are full timing in a bus, you are not maintaining a house and a cottage, you are not driving two cars. You're only driving the bus a few days a year since you are sitting at camp sites more than moving, so your "foot print" is a lot smaller than the average middle class working stiff. So you can carry on feeling good about youself... |
