Yup, new to the world of old buses. I bought Dounan Morton's (member here, I think??) 1953 GMC PD 4104-204. Only been on a few short roadtrips so far, and they've been quite the learning experience. I drove truck for years, so the size and/or mirrors don't bother me. Lack of power steering, double clutching, looong wheelbase, and finding reverse gear are all about the fun. Kinda work up a sweat while enjoying the view from the air seat... About me: I'm a former homebuilder who quit building 8 years ago. Running my crews were too much like day care with power tools. I now have a cabinet shop, and build 1700's style windows & doors for historical renovations & duplication, as well as the kitchen and/or custom woodwork. Build a lot of beds for DDSO's that are shipped all over the Northeast. Gotta love the shopwork, especially with no one to blame but yourself when things go wrong. My wife works for our US Dept of Defense at our former Griffiss AFB located here in upstate NY. She's 3 years from retirement and we will be working the bugs out of the 4104 for some major roadtrips. Gonna haul the RoadKing on a trailer to boot. Life is good, eh??? Thanks for listening (reading).... |

James, welcome to the addiction. We have a 4104 and an Eagle 15, and had a GM 4905. Of them all, I like the '04 the best. It's simple, built like a tank and pretty to look at. (In my opinion.) Once you repair the wear caused by millions of road miles & hack mechanics you've got a vehicle you can't wear out. Jim-Bob |

"Running my crews were too much like day care with power tools" Now that was funny! "...we will be working the bugs out of the 4104..." Aaaah, you make it sound easy! Welcome to the insanity 1 insanity runs in her family : mental illness, madness, dementia; lunacy, instability; mania, psychosis; informal craziness. 2 it would be insanity to take this loan : folly, foolishness, madness, idiocy, stupidity, lunacy, silliness; informal craziness.

Welcome James, With you being a "restoration woodworker" perhaps you watch old Norm Abrams on New Yankee Workshop from time to time. I love watching him make antiques in 30 minutes. I just haven't mastered the speed yet. LOL I salivate over all the tools he has. Your skills should serve you very well in restoring a coach. Keep us posted with pictures and ask all the questions you want. We all know it all here, we think, anyway ;) David |

Thanks Ian... I'll shoot some new pics over the weekend & squirt you a few. One on my profile would be nice too. Guess I'm far from the Geek I'd hoped to be by now. Slow learning curve with this cyber stuff. Thanks to all for the other links and suggestions. I will take them all into account. I like the GMBONE group. Sounds like you might have T shirts a Biker could wear. I did hit the FMCA site and looked over the list of all inclusive and/or GM groups around New England. Sure gonna add some fun to these upcoming years, eh?? Thanks again..........Jamo |
