Wow.

A new chapter in life. Bus conversion 101. See a journal of my new 1984 Silver Eagle conversion.
I'm just getting started, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Dan and Steve,
I was just in Lexington performing with my quartet at U of K on Nov. 9! We were down to guest appear with the U of K men's chorus and Accousticats. Their director was at Michigan State and got us started then went to KY. I first found it funny that I was there, then I saw Dan's nickname, and then I went to your website and saw the article for the Journeymen. Pretty cool! What are your plans for the bus Dan? Personal, or group or a mixture?

Hi Dan,

I was first amazed at how great your site looked, then the music started. All I can say is WOW! Sounded powerful. We have a 1968 Eagle 01, last 01 made. Good Luck with the conversion. I have been working on ours on and off for four years. At this rate it will take another four. That's OK, its lots of fun and hardwork.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the interest. I am from Ashland KY and my wife is a traveling nurse. We are currently in Rockville, MD. We get home most every week to work on the bus. Currently fixing leaks in the emergency exits. (new pics next week). I am kinda afraid of the rust I found on the frame around the rear exit. Hope I don't have to replace framework, I'll have to find someone or take a crash coarse on welding. OOPs!

The plan is a motorhome setup just for the little woman and myself with a soundproof studio and office in the center for recording. Can't wait!!!

A New BUSNUT

Dan

WOW, so much talent tied in with busses! My wife and I are part of a bluegrass gospel band and are building the bus so she can leave her nurse management role and start work as a traveling nurse. Would be interested in conversing with you Dan concerning both interests. Good luck on the project. It looks like a long road ahead for mine before we are ready to "hit the road". Godspeed on your journeys,

Dan, I'd rather been tearnin out the interior on the bus than shopping on black friday. Both the same madness.....lol.... Good progress on the bus, keep the pics coming as its allways fun to watch others progress. So far no significant rust problems I can tell in your pics.

....Steve.....over in Lex.....
well get together for some war (bus) stories soon

Dan,

Your pictures sure reminded me of what ours looked like when I did the same thing. I had several piles of stuff that I hauled to the dump. Before you cover anything up take care of those leaks and do the rust repair work. Take your time on this part, it will pay off in the long run. Make sure all of your marker lights work too, in case you have any wire ground problems. I spayed black undercoating on the underside of the aluminum roof, will help to keep the sweating down to a minimum.

Hey guys,

I do have a little problem. Last night after I posted the pics I went out to shut up the bus and the rear window on the drivers side would not close. Seems the rust on the frame above the window has done a number on the window frame.

Guess I just need to remove it and see.

Any suggestions?

Dan,
Take a flashlight and look around the opening. Something must be blocking it from closing. The frame should be aluminum, check the hinged portion also. Are they the original windows?

Yes,

They are the original, as far as I can tell. Seems the bottom was hitting the frame about 1/8 inch. I pryed it up with a screwdriver and got it in.

We are back in MD, and will be home next week and I will try the flashlight.

Good luck with the bus, Dan. I am just starting the conversion of my Model 10 as well. Wish mine looked as good as yours on the outside, but at least it is a CA bus so I don't have rust issues. Good luck! I will watch the pictures with interest.

Thanks Dale

From a distance it does look good, but to see it up close is another story. I got rivits coming loose and a bad spotty pait job, someone tried to paint with a brush and some house paint.

So inside first!

Dan
