Hello all my name is Dave Lower i am from just south of Ottawa, my bus is a 1973 MC7 when I figure out how to post pics I will post some.I hope you guys don't mind questions as I have not don this before, I can hardly wait for spring to come so I can uncover it and start the adventure. |

Dave, these people thrive on questions. It's another chance to talk about their coaches.
To coin a phrase that someone else posted, "the only dumb question is the one not asked".
I'd like to emphasize what Bigrigger said, check the archives for many answers to many questions.
It probably will save you time, rather than waiting for someone to answer.
I sometimes spend hours reading the archives.

Thanks for kind welcome guys.After being a welder for MCI I had to buy one one day! Just a little back ground on the bus it has a 8V71 detroit with a 4 speed Allison, it is mechanicaly in very good shape there is a little rust to fix. There is two things I need advise on. first it has a Primus hot water heat system, it must use a lot of propane as the tank in the rear bay is a 400 litre size. should I keep this system any advise will be great! The second thing is it has small curved windows above the drip rail going down both sides of the roof,I need ideas on filling in the holes after I take them out, a previous owner had painted them over and I think being lexan or plastic they won't be cleanable. Observation windows ? Was your coach used by Brewster in Banff? If so, there is a board member here that may have driven it. Primus hot water systems, donot know if fuel consumption would be high because not knowing how well insulated your buss is but don't forget you are in cold country. That system was used in wanderlodges, but don't know if still available today.
Skinning over from the outside would seem the most logical treatment after window removal.

welcome David to the unpredictable world of BUSNUTS. we vary from POOR to Filthy knowledge, thought I was gonna say moneyLOL and since you let the cat out about welding for mci, be prepared for many questions about MCI. I have one and I don't hear anything rusting at night here in N.central Fl. Sometimes they go by on I-75 and they creak and groan and parts fall off so it creates a problem of which eagle landed there LOL guys.. So anyway Welcome to our crazy world

David, the primus system is a good system made in Denmark and does not use much propane and if you need parts MAR-LEN has any part you need .Do you have a single boiler or double.I will find the web site and post it for you to show the useage for 24 hrs with 1 or 2 boilers along with Marks phone number in case you need a manual or parts.I love mine no smell, no smoke and works when you need it |

Welcome. I always thought the MCI 7 was a pretty good looking bus. By the way for posting pictures, this is a pretty easy way to do it once the pics are on your computer.

Hi the Primus system has two boilers, is the 400 litre tank a little to big? my main use will be in the summer, it is also plumbed into the engine block and the drivers heater core. the rust areas to fix are in the back of the engine bay. The little roof windows after looking at them close up I think they are tempered glass, but the two on the front of the roof that look like eye brows feel like lexan when I tap them? As far as working for MCI that was from mid 1983 to may 1997. It wasn't continous as there were lay offs here and there But it was a great place to work. I was a welder at there Fort Garry plant, my job was producing the front dash frame it went from drivers floor to roof line including all attaching brackets, also made side wall posts and stainless water tanks. It is quite the place 1/4 mile long main assembly line. All the shells were loaded on trailers and shiped to Pembina N.D. for final assembly, then sent back to Winnipeg for final inspection and shiping to the customers. I seen the New Jersey transit buses there had to be a 1000 of them we were puting out 5 per day 5 days a week it seemed for ever, Seen armored prison bus's for California. And there was always Greyhound bus's to build. |
