I have a Proheat and several heat exchangers to be installed. The heat exchangers have copper connecters with rolled ends. See http://www.ronthebusnut.com/imageArchive/Detail/e200.jpg

Anyhow, what type of hose/pipe/tubing should I use to connect between the Proheat and the heat exchangers? I was originally thinking PEX from a manifold to the heat exchangers, but I don't think PEX will work with the connecters on the exchangers.

Hi Brian
I used 3/4" ID heater hose from O Reillys and for the transitions through the floor, Aquahot has formed 3/4" 90 degree hoses that are 10" long ($8.26 each plus shipping). I connected these two together with flanged 1" pex connectors from Lowes and constant pressure hose clamps from O Reillys. I secured the hose to the floor with tie wraps that have a screw hole on them from Lowes. If you need the part number for the Aquahot hoses, let me know. For my system, I used 75' of hoses, 20 connectors, 40 clamps and 12 90 degree hoses.

I would go with what Rob said and buy the formed 90's and hose clamps from Aquahot and use high temp PEX, has to be rated around 220 degs. You also have to buy stainless steel inserts at all your connections. Aquahot also has 90 steel corners for the pex tube to go through, they work great

Brian,
The heat exchangers are designed for 3/4" heater hose and clamps. We are finishing the installation of our ProHeat. We used a high quality heater hose. We did not use silicone hose because I have seen it sometimes seep at the connections when cold (even with the $$ spring loaded clamps). Jack

Is the heater hose sold in rolls going to be stiff enough for this? That stuff seems to be pretty flat and not round compared to stick hose and silicone hose used on the engine.

I would never use silicone hose mostly because of the expense for the long runs. I'll probably mount the Proheat by the engine where the long gone Webasto was.

Aquahot has the preformed elbows and Zs on their website. I will have to check them out. Isn't it possible an auto parts store might have preformed hose that is similiar for a vehicle that needs a 90?

I still have a little while before I start on this in 6 to 8 weeks. I still need to get my Proheat over to Nick Badame for testing and possible overhaul. It will be nice to have heat for when it drops below freezing like my last trip.

Hi Brian
I bought the Gates premium heater hose from the auto store. Yes, it is oval in shape and as Ron said, use the brass flanged connectors. I bought my connectors in the Pex section of Lowes. As to the preformed 90's, I had an employee spend several hours looking for 3/4" ID preformed hose at the auto store with no luck. It may be available and infact, just thinking about it, you might google it and come up with something.
If you choose to use 3/4" Pex, I have a box of 100' of it and the plastic 90 degree brackets from Aquahot that I would gladly sell at cost plus shipping.

Why can't you use CPVC plastic pipe?

Thanks,

John
