Any suggestions on a good place to buy electric steps?

My Dina bus is pretty high off the ground compared to the average bus so I want to add electric steps. The bus had an air step, but I suspect it was torn off by a driver as the step is long gone.

Call Dewayne at Colaw RV Salvage on Carthage MO, hundreds of used ones and surplus new ones as well. The number is 1-417-548-2125. So far I have bought about $25K of parts from them. Web site is http://www.colawrvsalvage.com. Biggest obsticle for you would be shipping.

The closest RV surplus/salvage place to me is 325 miles round trip. I did call and they have a set for $189, but not sure it is worth the fuel for a 325 mile trip plus spending most of a Saturday.

I'll have to call Colaw RV Salvage tomorrow.

I just talked to MCI and it appears they have the complete air step assembly for $475 new. I might be able to get one used from a salvage Dina, but I think the one I know of was hit in the front.

I'm wondering if an air step would work very well when parked camping? Will it stay out full time like an electric step would?

Dallas, Jake's RV Salvage was the place I was referring to. While it is 152 miles from Minneapolis it is still 325 miles round trip for me.

I'm thinking an electric step from Ebay might be a better choice unless someone can convince me an air step is worth the extra money and will work at the campground. Remember, my Dina sits much higher off the ground than most coaches. Folks that have never seen one are usually shocked at how much ground clearance there is.

Brian, you connect it to the parking brake when the brake is on its out, when you release the brake it retracks.I am installing one on my Eagle because of the problems i have had with the electric step.some may have better luck than i have had the with electric step

Brian -

IBME with the OEM air steps on MCIs that when the air pressure drops, the slave cylinder holding the step out loses it's "umph", and allows the step to move unexpectedly under one's weight. Not good.

I always carried a medical step stool like the one pictured below. You can find them for about 20 bucks on eBay, but the really HD industrial ones will run about $50 or so. I had a small chain I used to hook it to the inside dashboard grab handle, to keep from driving off with it still outside. RF wheels do a marvelous job of customizing them!

FWIW & HTH. . .

Brian,
The air steps I have seen all required air pressure to keep them out. Without air pressure, the spring would retract the step.
We have a used Kwikee electric step we bought in '99 (have no idea how old it was when we bought it). We had to replace the motor about 2 years ago (with the new improved version). That has been my only problem we have had with it.

The step stool isn't all too practical for my use as it has to be thrown down at a stop or the first person has to take the big step down before putting the stool out. It does work good at the camp site though.

It sounds like the electric step might be the way to go unless I can figure out how to modify an air step for campground use.

Brian,
Maybe you could modify an air step to where the spring holds the step out and the air holds it in

Luvrbus, did you get your air step from B&B coach out of Las Vegas? You mention B&B and I found that B&B coach has air steps listed on their website.

The first two electric steps I installed I mounted with them hanging down and flush with the bottom of the coach. After I drug both of them off, I installed the third set up into the cavity of the steps and had no further problem. Takes this ole red neck a little while to figger some things out. LOL
