finally got around to searching for the air leak in the rear area. found that air is leaking out of the bottom of the relay valve for the rear theres about a 1 inch hole in the bottom and the air is leaking out of it when the pedal is applied or the icc valve is on. just a steady hiss coming out of it. do i need a new relay valve? thanks george |

It is possible, but it could be that the relay valve is just exhausting air that's leaking from your brake chambers. You could get a set of wide mouth vise grips and clamp down the line from each side, one at a time, and see if the leaking stops. If it does, you know which side the problem is on. |

sounds like you may have a bad diaphram in the brake chambers. Luke at us coach will have the parts and while you are under a WELL SUPPORTED coach rebuild Both chambers and rule out another failure just down the road.. Gomer |

You can get all the rebuild parts from Mohawk Bus parts. Will need to call with part numbers. About $250 in parts to rebuild both chambers if the shell halves are ok.Might be a good idea to do this now as , who knows when you won't be able to get the parts for them anymore. |

BTW, you can't get NEW chambers anymore and "rebuilt ones" are $450 to $500 each. |

my bus just has the single chambers not the dd3s. if the diaphrams were bad wont it just blow air out of the small vent hole toward the push rod? |

I am most familiar with the R6. The R6 distributes air in an equal amount to more than one service application. The one I use sends air to the service diaphrams. In this case, when I activate the brake pedal, the next stop is the relay valve one line in and 4 out, 1 for each of 4 drive axle brakes. If my R6 was leaking air to the atmosphere, I would have to replace it. You are right about the single diaphram, the air can only go one direction and the diaphram is the end of the line. If the diaphram is blown, it just blows across to the exit hole on the back side of the housing. |
