Am looking at a 1995 Ford 4X4 150 automatic w/electronic shift and also a 1997 Chev S-10 Blazer with same configuration. Have heard that there might be a computer chip that can be installed to put transfer case in neutral for towing four on the floor without disconnecting driveshafts. Anyone know anything about these vehicles? Any info appreciated. Thanks. John Dodge |

John. my advice to you is to read the owners manual for each vehicle or contact the manufacture direct in writing. Do NOT believe the dealer as I have found them to not know this sort of info and often tell you what they think you want to hear (as if they would do that!!!..... LOL). It should be under the RV towing section in the manual. Just putting a transfer case in neutral does not mean it will tow as the rear output bearing and seal can run dry without the splash feed that "being driven" provides. Peter. |

I do not believe that either of these can be towed as is four down. I know that in 2000 & 2001 models, none of the 4x4 Auto Fords could be towed four down and only the full size Chevy 4x4 PU w/a certain trans could be. The S-10 p/u could not be towed 4 down w 4x4 auto. Peter gives the best advice, check w/corporate or the owners manual. See it in writing, not from the lips of some salesman unless he would care to put that in writing w/ a warranty added. |
