I am going to be installing 2 roof mount A/C units in my 4106.....but not right away. (not enough money) However if I install the standered 14 inch roof vent can I go back and install the A/C in the same opening. I want to finish off the inside ceiling and I figured as long as I wire it for the A/C it would work. Does anyone see anything I am not. Thanks Schrec |

A standard RV roof vent (14 X 14)will accomodate RV rooftop ACs. Just be sure that ALL the wiring necessary to operate the unit is in place. Some units (Dometic HP for one) require 12Vdc and thermostat wiring in addition to the 120Vac supply. As long as the wiring is in place, you'll be all set to finish off the ceiling and install the ACs whenever you wish. Another thing...if you use thermostats with "phone" looking cabling...that ain't phone cables. Most thermostats use Cat 5 cabling. Be sure of the wiring requirements of the AC you plan to use. You could check the manufacturer of the AC.s you intend to use. They may have intallation instructions online. |

I've posted this before but it is worth repeating now. A standard 14x14 is just a nominal size for reference. The actual AC unit will require, in my case for Durotherm, a 14.25 x 14.25 minumum opening. Be very careful about this. I was too literal and made them EXACTLY 14x14 -- big mistake. |

Ditto Randy's comment. 14-1/4" square is what's usually required! |

On an 06 it is usual to frame with welded supports the opening chopped in the roof. Since the carbunkle air cond will weigh 100lbs plus , and roads are not smooth , a 2 or 3 G loading should be contemplated. FF |

When deciding where to install the vent (and future AC use), remember that the AC footprint on the roof is much larger than the 14 X 14 opening. Make sure the future AC unit will clear any thing else installed on the roof such as radio & TV antennas, vent stacks, etc. |
