I left del rio,tex friday evening. In joplin, missouri this morning.Bus running good. Had couple minor things, fan belt, blew one of those brand tires. As far as being overhauled,800 hundred miles approx, has burned no oil,as far as black smoke, not bad, I really notice on a grade, then she smokes.I'll be asking a lot of questions when I get back, that will keep this board busy for couple weeks. PS.My bus has a personality....shes loves to flash her marker lights at the truckers..oooohhhh I said to much, didn't I.Wait till my wife reads this....no more trips by myself and the bus..later Hammer down |

If it smokes on grades, make sure you aren't lugging it or pulling rpm below 1500 to 1600 unless they are short and gradual. Those runs are great, getting out on the open road. They don't get the mileage of a car, but not having to fill up every 3 to 4 hundred miles helps to forget about fuel costs, at least for a short while. |

Al. I'm all for clean air but the truth about all but the latest engines is pretty much summed up by saying no smoke, no power. I'm still looking for ways to get more smoke! |

Smoke is wasted fuel and not necessarily more power. When it smokes on hills back off until it stops and then shift down if necessary. Smoking is much worse at high elevations if you have no turbo. |
