Have you checked your shudders or thermostat on the shudders? Robert

Are the fan blades in good condition? Is the fan shroud ok? Is the fan even turning? Does your bus still have the shutters in front of the radiator? Are you still running a stock 6-71? Do you have an automatic transmission? My stock 04 with a 6-71 and 4 speed spicer runs at 180 at any speed unless I'm climbing and the revs fall below about 1800. Then it heats up unless I shift to a lower gear. -- Don

Was the block cleaned out when you were cleaning everything up? Many people have run car antifreeze which does not have the additive package that the DD needs to stay clean.

The package is available at truck parts ands service outfits, and of course, at the DD dealer's.

I notice the temperatures that you mention. I remember from a construction job that was done in our area that the maintenance people wanted the hottest thermostats that they could get for the DDs.

They seemed to think that they had less trouble with the engines if they ran hot, but not overheated. It made the drivers nervous because there wasn't much room between normal running temperature and overheated.

They were running about 200 every time they pulled a short grade, but it didn't seem to cause any problem.

Thermostats take 15 or 20 degrees to go from just cracked open to wide open, so the temperatures you're talking about might be pretty normal if you had 190 thermostats.

You didn't say if some time in the past the engine has behaved differently. I don't know if you've figured out how close to full horsepower that 6-71 has to run to get you 60 mph.

The high block engine has increased cooling passages in the block. You can figure out which block it is by looking at the airbox covers. If you have a four valve head, you should have the high block, because they kicked up the horsepower ratings by 40 or 50.

We are assuming (Yea I know) that you are keeping the RPM's turned up enough.
