I think I need to replace my drums but thought I’d check it out with my E-bus friends first. My drums are groovy… Big time. The book sez:

“Brake drums should never be machined to more than 1/8 inch beyond original diameter.”

Original dia is listed as 14.510. So if my grooved drums are 14.510 + .125, I need to replace. Is this correct?

You are correct SIR..!!
If you take them to a machine shop they will "mic" them and check the book before you walk away, and you will get the same answer from any machine shop with insurance.
Going .010 over on a Corvair or VW drum (cheating) is a whole different bag of White Castles compared to a coach drum.

IF you purchase new drums , be aware that they come in a bunch of grades, from a variety of mfg.

The cheapest are simply cast, the best are machined to run smooth , inside and out.

The best are much easier to ballance and get a great ride at 70+.

Now I have it from a very reputable source that the book numbers (14.510 + .125) have been expanded to +.25. I got a price on new drums: front 135 each/rear 190 each. I think I will start looking for used. Joe
