I was chatting with a mechanic today about the cost of doing an inframe on my DD8v71.(Its running fine now, just planning on future costs). He mentioned that on all rebuilds there are new regs.on which pistons and jets can be used. Emmissions Standards etc...causing reduction in horse power. I certainly wouldn't want to sink a pile of cash into making my engine weaker. Anyone heard about this? The newer models have computer control on timing and such to lower smoke when cold and limit how much fuel is actually released when you mash the pedal, sounds like the vintage rigs would suffer most. |

Most coaches engines are built to use less HP than can be built in the basic engine , EG the usual 8V71 in a bus is 260 hp , the truckers attempt to get 318 , but this requires different parts , assembly , and if your going to spin the devel out of it , new valves for 2300RPM. Not an inexpensive way to save 5 min coast to coast. FAST FRED |
