I am building my genset box and would like an opinion as to the importance of isolating the genset starter battery from the components in the box. Will this battery generate enough fumes to worry about corrosion in the generator enclosure?

David the battery should be away from the genset unless it has good ventilation and care. Otherwise leave it with the other battery pack.
