Of the many projects involved with converting my coach, one is rewiring the exterior clearance and marker lights. So today, as I was out and about earning a living, this idea came to mind: Making the corner clearance lights blink when the turn signals are activated. Just like GM does with their front side marker lamps. The idea came to me while following a Pepsi delivery truck/trailer - it had additional turn/brake lamps on the upper rear corners of the trailer. I was behind an SUV at the time, but could still see the truck's turn signals, even tho the main ones at roughly bumper height were hidden by the SUV. As a safety idea, I think it might have some merit. . . But I also wonder if it's legal. . . Opinions welcome. . . 8^) RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Hmmmmm. Not a bad idea. Not sure it's legal, though. Have you tried calling the police (State police/Highway patrol probably a better bet) & asking one of the guys who inspects the rigs? If this is legal, I may do it. |

On my first coach, I just added another light for the turn signal. If there is a legal requirement for the clearance light, it is still there. George Myers |

Why not wire the rear markers the same as front markers are done on cars. No ground connection, just connect the two wires between the turn signal and taillight feed wires, it will flash when the turn signal is on and the taillights are off, and go off when the turn signal is on and the taillights are on. All you have to do is take the ground wire and connect it to the wire going to the rear turn signal, unless you flash the brake lights. If you signal with the brake lights, you need to connect to the front turn signal. Or if you have those midway marker/flasher lights, you may be able to just piggy-back off that wiring. Peter. |

I'll concur with the last post. Go for it! As long as the clearance light still burns while you are driving along, no one is going to have much to say about the addition of more lighting to increase safety and visibility of your intentions. Add a double fliment bulb, running a wire up from below, or wire as GM does for the front marker. And, many provinces and states write their legislation for commercial vehicles. We are not commercial vehicles, we are motorhomes, etc. So what really applies to us in a given jurisdiction? If I win the big lottery in Ontario tonight, I promise to research and write the comprehensive busnut guide to state and provincial legislation in Canada and USA. And if some goofy enforcement type starts getting bent out of shape, well, who cares? Pay the ticket and don't go back to the jurisdiction again. Geez, it's not like you're murdering someone! Add on anything and everything that helps the following driver figure out what is going on ahead and damn the ancient legislators and their obtuse regulations! Sorry to my fans, I have to write a crazy one every once and awhile! happy coaching! buswarrior |

Sorry, the lottery gods were unkind, so we must carry on through the void of myth, mystery and misinformation of legislated requirements continent wide. You'd think for such a noble purpose, that my numbers would have come up! happy coaching! buswarrior |
