I came across this page while browsing around... http://www.hi-z.com/websit07.htm Not in production yet but a very interesting idea!! The weird thing for me is that I used to rent my shop space from the guy in the photo back in 1980....small world... Cheers Gary |

Cool idea. Now if he just made one that was a little smaller and could be fitted to the exhaust of a space heater, then it could power the heater's blower with out running down the house batteries on those long, cold, boondocking nights. Might even be able to provide enough power to run a electric blanket, also. -- Don |

The Espar, Eberspacher, turbo heater used in UNIMOGs does just that. It uses and makes no electricity except to start it up, then it runs with a contiuous flame and requires no more power. The blower is driven by an exhuast turbo that is completely isolated from the blower. No common bearing as in an engine turbo. They were made for gasoline operation but I hope to convert one to diesel. Hope it only takes an orifice change. Maybe it has a generator like a oleman lantern that needs some more surface areal too. If anybody knows how to do this let me know. Otherwise I start from zero. |
