For those that have been following I posted some more pictures of the Eagle. They say I should have a painted Bus by the end of next week. Pictures 18-25 are the lastest http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562424057gIiovZ |

Hi Ed, Sure is looking good. I see all the paint is off, that's a good sign. The prep work takes the longest. What color are you going to use? Ours is stripped on one side and the rear cap. I know who will win this race! Good Luck and Thanks for keeping us informed. Paul |

Jerry, The shop is called Central Carolina Body Works. They are located in Sophia which is just a hop and a skip from you. That is there business busses. They came recommended from busnuts here and I went to see them, good old boys been doing it for a long time. They got some pretty bad (new buses)wrecks that are doing also. Paul, as for the color stay tuned I got to keep you in suspense |

Oh man, that's not fair! ;-) Just as long as it's not pink! Do you know what paint products they are using? You can at least answer that question, can't you? Hee Hee |

__. Jerry, they did my bus which needed a lot of work. It has fibreglass front and rear sections and they'd had 25 years of not being properly repaired when they were dinged. They'd left the cracks full of dirt, damp and salt and just bondoed over them. Central Carolina dug all the old stuff out (which had deteriorated both the plastic components and the glass mat) and properly repaired the old damage with fibreglass which fixes up all the original damage, subsequent deterioration, and also seals the spot so that it's stable for many years to come. __. I was *very* pleased with their work. To reach them, take exit 106 ("Finch Farm Rd) off I-85 and go about 5 miles east crosscountry. |

Ed, Would you mind telling us about how much the job is going to cost? I've never read about it. Thanks! |

They like to use Martin Seynour products whenever possible. It will be a urethane paint, hopefully last as long as me. To strip and do all body work paint single stage color and two small stripes they quoted me $5,200 He said it might run a little more for body work depending on what they uncovered. They did find a mess at the rear cap area.I've stripped and painted many a car I think his price is really good.Okay Paul just so you don't use the same color it is going to be a light blue with a couple of small silver metallic stripes to offset it.He said the blue I picked was what he called Conway Twitty blue. He did his coach years ago for him and recently re-did it for the Lewis family who owns it. |

That sounds quite fair for stripping as well. I'll look into these guys in a couple of seasons. Since my bus is already stripped, it should save me some dough! Thanks Ed! |

Ed, That's sound like a very fair price for what is being done! Stripping and the rest of the prep takes a long time. The primer, paint and other products will cost at least 1K or more. Our Eagle will be two solid colors, white with black and blue pearl over both. It should be interesting to do. Thanks for the information. Good Luck, Paul |

Sounds really high to me....but then we live in the third world. Got a local quote for stripping, body work ( not much) two colors of paint and clear coat...."about 4,000"..per the man in charge. Wanted a couple of months from start to finish to "work it in with the rest of the work"; they do all the local school and transit buses. The question was..."what kind of a paint job do you want?"....my answer..."the kind that if you saw this coach you would want to buy it on the spot". FWIW RCB |

Jerry, not sure if they are open on saturday, but will find out . I would like to pick mine up on a saturday easier to get someone to take me there. They will have had my bus for almost two months but then that was my choose. I took it to them without an appt. told them to work it in and take their time. I figured this time of year I wouldn't use it much. They do schedule work so if you have a time frame they will work with you. My Opinion if a shop asked me what kind of a paint job I wanted I would go elsewhere , because you ain't going to be happy with the outcome.Macco will paint right over dirt for you at no extra charge !! |

Jerry....New Mexico....Las Cruces...as I stated, they would work on it as they can. Not bad at all for months when one would not likely travel under any circumstance. Right here in town and they have a large building...everything is processed inside, and recommended by the very large school bus company. And...as I want to work on it, even helping the process, they will allow. As he stated...the more I do the less they do and the less the charge. FWIW RCB |

Ed...seems to me you misinterpret....that is precisely the question I would ask....do you want a quick fix, or..... Isn't that the reason they build Kias, Hondas, Nissan, Lexus, Mercedes and Rolls? Something for every budget. I didn't want a $15,000 job as some may want. I did not want a quick fix job as some may want. I wanted and still want a decent looking coach and paint job that one could be pleased with. I could do it myself, but choose not to. They have a good reputation and that is enough for me. Perhaps your circumstances are different than mine. As FF says.....do it your way. FWIW RCB |

RCB , Probably I did misinterpret. It that I think that any paint job should be as good as it can be.The paint ain't going to be be any better than the prep job,if you can help in that area than you for sure will see any problems so that the final product turns out to your expectations. It is unusal at least in this area to find a buisness that is willing to let the owner help. WE(mom) has some land in Deming I guess not to far from you.I've never been there but plan on it in the next year (08).Perhaps if your around we'll look you up. |
