I got such good results on the lock strip question now I'll try another one. My air WW control valves leak slightly. I took one apart and saw that the problem is the small plastic disc with grooves and holes to route air to the proper places. The disc is slightly worn and allI need is one of those discs or a valve repair kit. I've googled my brains out with negative results. Anyone have any ideas about where I can get these parts? The part number for the valve appears to be F-1430 and the disc is F-1442. It is made by the TRICO company which has been in the WW business for many years but I found nothing on their website except blades and arms. (Message edited by gusc on March 03, 2008) |

Check with Luke. I got some ww repair parts from him the last time I stopped there. If no luck there, you can buy pneumatic valves from McMaster-Carr. They have a pretty substantial online catalog and ship incredibly fast. |

Gus, maybe this link will help you. http://www.railcar.co.uk/mechanical/wipers/trico/service.htm There don't seem to be any US references available for this valve. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher Ketchikan, Alaska |

__. Gus, these locomotives are going away pretty quickly but they were widely used on "local services" especially in the '60's and '70's. Each car was a completely independent and self-contained unit. If they thought they'd fill one, they'd use one -- if they thought they'd fill three, three would be linked together; the driver (what we in N America would call the "engineer") would sit in the front cab and drive while air throttles and linked brakes would carry the controls to each car. As the train moved, each car would provide it's own motive power (through the engine in each unit and it's own transmission, with all the transmissions linked by air control) and braking. They even had a method of linking things like the heating control in each car. __. I'm pretty sure that they would commonly link together 3-4 and I think they may have even linked 6 or so on occasion. __. The engines used (the Leyland 150 Hp diesel) in these trains are pretty much the same engine as in my bus, modified to be "lay down cylinders" in the train version. I've been able to glean lots of good info from their site and they've also provided me with good parts suppliers and engine services (fuel pump rebuilders, etc.). (The train transmissions are pretty different from the bus ones, though, but they do use a similar bolted-on torque converter separate from the transmission.) __. Yes, the train units did use air valves with at least internal parts interchangable with the US truck wiper valves but since these trains aren't being used in service much any more, I'm afraid that they're not going to be a great source for parts. (But maybe ...) __. I think that the system on the individual train cars is much more like, say the NY subway system than trains in N America. But it all strikes me as kinda wierd! |

Bruce, The British train page gave only a technical page with illustrations of the valve plus the motor. Very informative for working on them but no parts source. Ed, Thanks, I'll check the archives. |

EdNJ, I tried the archives but came up with nothing useful. What did you use for keywords? |
