Thoughts? Instead of levelling the whole coach just for the silly propane fridge, why not just mount the bottom of the fridge on a little mechanism to tilt it right-to-left to level it. I'm thinking of the power mechanism from a Chrysler New Yorker seat, mounted sideways ...tons of tilt motion, motorized, $20 bucks from the junkyard... perhaps with a locking knob on the top of the fridge for driving... don't think the fridge has to be level front-to-back, just left-to -right, am I correct? It would be a simple matter to make a rolling rubber gasket for sealing the back area and a sliding front that looks very nice... and a LOT easier than levelling a 22,000 pound vehicle... Friges have come a long way since the old RV type refers. The directions suggest leveling but also state that leveling is not a criticle factor as it once was in the past. Mine is a Norcold 3-way. I have the Norcold in my old RV and other than level with the rv itself, I have never, ever leveled the rV and the refer has never ever not worked. The bus will have a much longer wheel base so it would be much less off level than my 23' RV. If you think that would be a good idea, then have at it, sounds like it can work well. Personally, I don't think you need it. for what its worth - cd |

A modern propane fridge just uses a bit more propane , if off level. The units burning out is a thing of the past. FAST FRED |

Generally accepted rule with today's fridge's is that if the floor is level enough for you to walk on, the bus is level enough for the fridge. Technically, I'm pretty sure that its 6 degrees side to side and 3 degrees fore/aft (or visa/versa, its been a while and I don't have the book anymore. I know its 3 & 6, just not sure of the direction). That's a whole lot of tilt. If it is 6 side to side, thats 10" tilt, and 3 fore/aft is 2' difference nose to tail on a 40 footer. |

I will agree with Jim "...if the floor is level enough to walk on..." I would like to modify that to "if you can't walk but don't fall out of bed, the fridge will work just fine" I have found with the 19 year old cheapie 2 way in my 1983 motorhome that it will run on the 6 gallon tank for 6 months, at least. I store it with the fridge on so it does not get rank, I have never run the tank out. And with my 10 year old 3 way Norcold in my 4905: I have parked on the shoulder at the roadside way out of level (we slept in my friends house), had the right rear air bag go flat (small leak), being at least a full 6" out of level side to side, and found that it is still making ice at the end of the next day.... Go gas, you will never regret it. Level? It won't work good if you lay the bus on it's side in the ditch... and that would be when you Really need a cold one! |

As I am new to this "business," I conjure up lots of other questions when I read all these posts...I understand that you need to level the LP fridge, but is it required if the fridge is a straight 120v house fridge? Cheers, Matt "In the hunt for the perfect bus" |
