Has anyone replaced the rubber only on their airbags? Prevost and Goodyear are out of the ones for my bus and it will be a month or two before they have them again. I was going to replace my drive axle bags now but can't. Out of time. While trying to buy the bags, rubber only was offered to me for $66 instead of $160. They have to be put in a cage (to hold the mounts, top and bottom, and inflated like a tubeless tire to push them on the metal parts. I was told by a local expert that it is very difficult and not worth the trouble. Still a savinga of around $700 to $800 is tempting. If I do it, I won't start until the mounted bags are available so I don't get stuck with a bus on blocks for months if it doesn't work. The cage is as simple as two steel plates with held together with four threaded rods on the corners and holes for the bolts and an air fill valve at the top. Anybody done this? |

Steve- I haven't done it, but gave it serious thought until Prevost said they no longer supply rubber only. Was it Prevost who could supply only the bellows? Also, I assume you saw the cage in the Prevost manual which covers installation pretty well. Jim |

Mohawk supplied all the bags for our 4106 (16) for about 80 each. These are the new one piece bags. My bags were not leaking, but some of the steel cans were rusted thru. |

Jim, I do not have a manual. I want one but they tell me they do not have one when I call. I really want one. Where do I get one. I have an 81 Prevost LeMirage. I had a complete set of manuals for each of two 4905s and I feel totally left out with out manuals on my current bus. Prevost had rubber only in New Jersey for Drive bags on an 81 (96" wide) LeMirage. My plates and bases are good so it is a possibility. Gary these bags are made for Prevost exclusively. I will try Mohawk, but Prevost usually beats after market suppliers on pricing. Steve Fessenden |

Steve- I didn't realize you had a 96 wide. Probably a much different bag than the 102 because of weight. I don't know where to send you to buy a manual but I can copy the pages of mine and send them to you covering the installation of the air bag bellows onto the end caps. They stress that they can blow up if done incorrectly. Email me if you want them. CCoachC@aol.com Jim |
