This may be an incredibly stupid question (but I've seen a lot of them on this board)...Why do we need the pintle hitch on the front of the bus. From what I understand if the bus needs to be towed then it needs to be towed without the wheels on the ground because the air brakes will apply and the bus won't move (which is probably what happened to our front and back bumpers). We will be residing our bus. If the pintle hitch isn't needed then we can cover over it. Although David is planning on adding a small air compressor so the air can be brought up to pressure without running the engine.

Eagle 15's had a stainless cover over the pintle hitch with a snazzy eagle casting on top. The pintle hitch was intended primarily so that you could pull the bus quickly - for emergencies, breakdowns in the middle of an intersection, etc. If you are not planning on driving in the city much, it is not really necessary, but is nice to have. Put a hinged cover over it, and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Jim is right. My 10 has the hitch and I made me a tow bar that can be hooked to just about anything (truck, tractor, etc.) to get me off the road in a hurry. I bought a pancake compresser and put it in the back corner where the ac compressor was and plumbed it to my air system to get the brakes released. This is one novelty that I hope I never have to use, (the tow bar I mean). I use my compressor all the time.

If you ever back into a soft spot in a campsite, field, back 40 or wherever, those rings will be quite handy to sling a chain onto to get pulled out. You can be sure that they were attached to something solid when it was built.
("were" as opposed to "are"???? :-)

Of course, no one on this board would ever back onto an unimproved surface without getting out to check for soft ground first, would we?

Anyone need to confess anything here to strengthen my point?

happy coaching!
