Jerry left Lakeland, Fl today about 2:00pm going home to Mooresville, NC after his engine change. Well it didn't end up as a engine change. We changed the engine, put in a world transmission, new drive shaft and new rear end. Seams one thing always leads to another. We drove it about 100 miles before he left fixing things. Sure hope he gets home with out problems. I will be going that way on Monday, will witch for him along the way. There are still 3 Detroit 50's left if any of you want to dive in and make the change.

Jack, what model bus did you do this too? And when did you start and finish? How long did it take counting the engineering aspects? Thanks Dave

This is my second time, the first was my Eagle.
The one that we just finished is a 102A3 that my son ownes. Just got a call from him, he is in Ga and all is going well. His silverlink says that he is geting over 9 miles to the gallon and he says all is going well. I started getting the engine ready the first week in Jan., pulled his engine out the end of the first week in Feb. and Jerry and I finished it today. Didn't work full time, took off lots of time and Jerry was only here ten days. I have put over 10,000 miles on my eagle. Getting 7.2 miles to the gallon and it runs great. I have the 4 speed allison with a 3.36 rear. Would love to have the 6 speed, maybe next year.

Jack, are you still using the air throttle to the back? I thought that was a pretty clever way to get your bus on the road.

For those not familiar with Jack's installation, he ran an air throttle and actuated the electronic "throttle" in the engine compartment via the air cylinder. That way he did not have to fabricate a wire loom to the front. You give up actuating the jakes and cruize control that way, but it sure made the installation simpler.

Good morning Jim. You don't give up anything. The cruize and jakes still work from the front of the coach. I also run the wireing for a throttle in the front if later you want to put one there. On Jerrys I didn't use a air throttle, but I used his throttle cable and put the control in the back. It is nice to be able to reach in and work the throttle from the back by hand. On my eagle the controls were so bad I had to change to the air. On Jerrys he had a good cable that worked well so that is what I used.
Talked to Jerry this morning, he stopped for the night in SC. Said all was going well he has about 5 more hrs. and will be home.

He made it home, I sure was glad to hear that. No problems, 620 miles at 9,1 miles to the gallon. I will want to see him fill up at the station to conform the milage. I only get 7.2 for 10,000 miles. He dose have overdrive and turns 250 less rpm than mine. Going to make me put in the world trans. and spend the money for a new rear.

Jack,

When you say spend money for a new rear, do you mean the drop box, etc? Will the world fit in with the drop box or do you have to move the bogies to tags like Catskinner did on his eagle? Just curious

Jack,Cat makes a transmission you may like better than the B500.The CX31 would be the one for you it's a 6 speed I like the CX35 8 speed. There is a place in Phoenix that cuts gears for the drop box to make a 3.36 have a ratio of 3.02 I have never been able to find but the 3.73,3.36 and 4.11 for a Eagle with a drop box I would like a taller gear for my Eagle do you know where I can buy one that I could use with my dropbox setup I have a 3.36 now thanks for any info you can give

David, If I put in the world tran. I will have to change the rear. I can get it changed to a 4.11 or a 4.33. The world is about 5 in. shorter than the allison 740 that is in the coach now. That means I will have to change the drive shaft like I did on Jerry's.
Luvrbus, if I could get a 3.02 don't think I would change the trans. I also have a 3.36 and am turning about 1850 at 65 miles per hr. Need to get that down to about 1500 to get the best out of that high priced diesel. Saw some today in Fl at 4.09 that is high. I will talk to Pro Gear and see if they can go any higher on the rear. I have been told that is the largest gear that would fit in the housing. I will let you know what they say.
