THIS IS AN OFF TOPIC THREAD HOWEVER, IT MAKES SENSE. Mr BossNut, if this is not allowed then PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!! This is not a bad idea, why not try it. Please pass it on. ________________________________ THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON. This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas . It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers . If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK. Keep it going | ||

Well... I think it is a good idea and could have a real impact. BUT cut the rhetoric....this shaggy dog pitch will turn more people off than on to the scheme. Forgive me for being negative...as most who have read my remarks over the years know I am not "that way". Bring it down to a few sentences and you have a good sales presentation! FWIW  RCB | ||

R C, I received this as an email. This is not my sales pitch. I'll by it if it reaches 10.00 a gallon. That doesn't make it right. I'll leave it just the way it was presented. WRONG Mike. We have Esso, otherwise known as Eastern Seaboard Standard Oil and as far as I know, a wholey sp? owned subsidiary of Exxon. Joe. | ||

Yes the price of fuel is high. Locally the price at the pump for diesel at the truckstop is 1.18 per liter, which translates to 4.46 canadian per US gallon. Currencies are about at par. I will bet that there a few oldtimers here that remember paying 30c per gallon around 1964. The price today has not changed much from those days. Today three silver dimes are worth around 3.60 enabeling you to still buy that gallon. What has changed mostly is that entity called money and the way it looks now is that it is going to get worse. Joe....hate to admit to your historical nostalgia....but. BTDT. When I was a teenager in Kansas City, MO. we had a couple of refineries in the area and, apparently, no shortage of gasoline. Many gas wars too. 1950's. True and verifiable....I can remember 11.9 per gallon with a norm of around 13 to 15 cents. As a stockboy at Sherwin-Williams I made 75 cents an hour....and that was up from 50..... many trips to North KC where the gas wars were always going on....with a date on Saturday nights and the close-by drive in theater to get ten gallons... I remember 19 cents for gas and about a nickel cheaper for diesel. We would put in a couple of bucks and cruise "The Gut" all night. Now it wouldn't make it to the next gas station. Oh well. | ||

I'm not as old as some of you...[cough] I only remember paying .48 for gas in my lawnmower when I was trying to make a little money as a kid. (Must have been around 1970) It was something like .52 when I was starting to drive. (didn't legally start till I was 18 in 1978) If you account for inflation, gas has stayed fairly low throughout the years. It still sucks as it gets higher because your budget is based around the lower price. . | ||

I just re-entered the states from Baja. The converted price per US gallon for diesel in Mexico was $2.06 US. Price was the same at all PeMex stations. Needless to say, I put in every drop I could before crossing the border. This is not ULSD, which makes no difference to me. | ||

Mark....out of pure curiosity, how long did it take you to clear US Border crossing....and where? Any "special" things you might have encountered? We are making a trip tp Palomas on Friday....across from Columbus, NM. I am considering taking the coach for just the reason you described. Fuel here in Las Cruces is now 3.90 +- depending. It is 100 miles one way,but the bus needs a work out and at half price, it might just be worth it. Thanx RCB | ||

I'm not sure about the amount of tax in Ontario on on diesel fuel, However, I recently filled up my gas powered truck at a service station that breaks out all the taxes on its receipts. On a purchase of about $96.00 of gas, more than $18.00 of the cost was taxes added at the point of sale. | ||

RCB: We entered Mexico at Mexicali (western crossing). The wait was about 15 minutes. The customs agent seemed to either want duty, or a payoff for one of the spare parts I carry. After going back and forth and each of us scribbling numbers on the box, he shrugged and told me to proceed. He only wanted to look under the bed. Northbound, we also crossed at Mexicali (eastern crossing). The line was 1 1/2 hrs. long. US Customs took the drug dog aboard, looked in the cabinets, and took our oranges (no fresh fruit from anywhere allowed back into the US). The military checkpoint on Mexico 5 was just a quick walk through. Very polite young soldiers. A cold soda helps. | ||

Since the housing bubble is deflating and the stock market is bouncy , "THEY" your 401K mutual fund , your retirement mutual fund and loads of other commodity amateurs are piling in. Don't worry as the price comes back down , the pros in the pits will clean their clocks , driving the prices artifically lower. FF | ||

I agree with FF on this. There is a big bubble and it will burst. We could expidite this by not buying fuel, not from just one co. but just not buying it. But "We the People" are a spineless lot!!!! Our Forefathers would be ashamed. |
