I have just removed the house battery and behind it are a bunch of air lines and valvels and such... ? The one labelled high idle looks fried and the wires had in the past been taped up by someone? Question is - is this important and where should try to find the replacement part, how is it supposed to be wired? Here is a picture of the part i see... Thanks, John |

John, that is for your factory heat the valve on top was to engage the high idle to keep the battery charge when it was a passenger bus if your high idle works with the dash switch I would not worry about it (Message edited by luvrbus on April 06, 2008) (Message edited by luvrbus on April 06, 2008) |

I would honestly say that the high idle switch doesnt do anything... i have tried to switch it on when i have stopped - i read once that the high idle can be used to cool the engine down before you shut it off after a long drive. I have tried it and seen no difference in the motor's idle speed... so I guess it isnt working... I mainly get concerned when I find things like this - issues which may have happened on the road and someone just neglected to repair it later on. |

John by the time you pull off the main HWY and drive on secondary roads for a couple of miles your engine is cool enough to shut off. |

The top part of that looks like a pressure switch, commonly used to activate the brake lights, and in this case, perhaps the dash tell tale that the fast idle has been engaged? Fast idle was air operated on the old equipment... The bottom part, that Bendix number will tell you what it is. Maybe a regulator of some kind? happy coaching! buswarrior |

BW that switch is to energize the boost pumps through relays if the bus still has the pumps and is tied to the gradustat and fast idle someway but I forgot how but I will check my manual Mon for him because it is different on every model 15 I have been around (Message edited by luvrbus on April 06, 2008) |
