My 85 eagle has one factory fuel tank in the center between the bogies. The fuel gauge sender is a long tube with 2 terminals on top, with a float on a piano like wire that creates ohms as it travels the wire, which works the gauge. It works fine.

The tube's second terminal is supposed to ground the low fuel light when it gets about 4" from the bottom. I can't see what the float grounds to at the bottom of the tube. The tube appears to be made of aluminum or some type of plastic. It is very light and thin. There are no screws on it once its unbolted from the tank and removed, so I can't figure out how to get inside the tube.

I don't want to mess with it too much because the fuel level gauge works fine. If I break this gizmo, I'll be in a real pickle because I have no idea where to find a sender like this.

Anyone have any ideas on trouble the problem?

Hi David, Mt 84 Eagle fuel gauge does not work how did you get to the top of the tank to inspect the two terminals two make sure there were no shorts. I have the manuals for the Eagle, just don't want to take more apart than required. Thanks in advance. Michael

My floor above the tank is removable to gain access to the tunnel behind the back bay and all the way to the engine. The fuel sender is in the middle of the tank at the top and is secured by 5 or 6 screws. It slides right out when the screws are removed.
