Our most recent trip was fun until our entrance door popped open at almost 70 mph. All of a sudden that kind of makes you think one of two things. One What the heck is happening or two, your co-pilot has had enough! Anyway after 3 times of popping open for no apparent reason, I decided that was enough and used a ratchet strap to hold it shut until I got home. That worked but was a PIA to get out. OK the air/electric door never has worked the way it was designed to work and a past attempt to make it work properly resulted in buying a manifold/valve from Prevost that goes under the dash. That was installed but it still didn't work. It closed part way and that was it. The dash switch and the exterior switch that actually open and close along with latching and unlatching the door never worked. So it was slam it shut and hope for the best! The bus ran so well I felt the door really needed to operate correctly so I worked on it yesterday and today. TODAY, the door NOW works the way it was designed to and it feels good knowing it does! It latches and unlatches from the dash and the exterior switches not to mention seals up like a tight glove! No more wind noise or road noise! The problem was the door latch worked good as long as the door was open. Close it and it wouldn't latch or seal. PROBLEM found was the new manifold/valve I purchased better known as a "Norgren valve" was plummed backwards. For giggles I thought I would reverse the air supply line with the air port that was plugged and everything started to work. Yes it came with instructions but after I called Prevost they informed me the instructions could have been mis-printed! Hmm, it could have saved a lot of headaches had I known that on the front end too! Oh well, another obstacle GONE! Now what is there to fix? I'm on a rollllll Ace |

Hey, Ace. Thanks for providing your experiences. I have only one big reservation about wanting to be a part of this hobby for a long time -- that's whether I can reasonably expect to leave on a trip and arrive in a timely manner. I know that we're running "classic" vehicles for the most part and "into each life some rain must fall", but stories of success in keeping the trip going are really encouraging. Of course, "preparation" is the biggest thing and the most effective in keeping us on the road, but it's good to hear of people getting through problems. |
