I have read many times that an engine oil analysis is recommended prior to purchasing a coach. Just what can this analysis reveal?

Also, what if the seller has just had the oil changed ... can a proper oil analysis still be done?

hiwaycallin,
it can reveal if you have antifreeze, fuel, metal most important the TBA numbers for your oil change intervals, and I don't think a sample on a new oil change is going to reveal much unless there is a serious problem

Oil analysis may be done at the local big truck dealer, many have the machine there. You may also purchase a sample kit and mail it in to the lab.

Ask around the truck dealers and your heavy truck parts places, someone will know what to do locally.

Oil analysis on fresh oil is a waste of time.

Needs to be closer to oil change time for the oil to have loaded up on whatever nasties might be present.

Very important that you get all the info on what the results mean for YOUR engine, from someone who isn't trying to sell you a rebuild!

Remember, these guys aren't peering into 2-stroke oil from an engine run by a busnut very often, if ever before. Our duty cycle must be allowed for when interpreting the results.

We're primarily worried about diesel and anti-freeze showing up. You can arrive at better conclusions about the metals found after a couple of reports, than from one.

As long as nothing is off the chart, good to go?

happy coaching!
