It's my guess we all know someone who will bear a hand once in a while even though they've their own projects and 'Honeydo' lists but on occasion there's someone who will just about drop everything to help a guy out.
Help a guy out...now there's an understatement in this case. let me tell you a story.....

We've been full timing in FL all winter and I've waited 5 months for a two week window where my wife could go and visit her sister about 30 miles from here and give me the chance to install the Mahogany floor in the bus. She went and I started...naturally in the wrong spot...but started. Right at the drivers seat. Now, my MC5 has internal wheel wells which become a PITA but I managed to get just past the front of the first one that day. I might explain that I'm installing the flooring 45 Degrees to the C/L of the bus creating the illusion that it's wider.

I knew I was in deep dodo. This was going to take me all summer. I might add that I'm 72 and have Emphysema
so I take a LOT of breaks. In a conversation with my friend (and for the life of me I cannot understand why I have so many good ones) I mentioned that I was doing the floor and was sort of over my head.

"I can come tomorrow afternoon and give you a hand", my friend said. "Great", I replied and we were on.

I had Cliff's chop saw and another friends' band saw so tools wise we were OK. He came in and looked at what I'd done and said something like, "It's really a big job for one guy. It'll go faster with the two of us". He jumped tight in and started measuring and handing pieces to me through the window and before long we were 2/3's done! And he was doing the gluing as well.....I was taking breaks.

He had something to do the following day but called me that night and said he'd be back the following day about noon but had to be home by 7 that night. We hit it again and finished in time for his commitment with SWWNBD. I tried to pay for his gas, it ain't cheap y'know, and he wouldn't hear of it. and Emphatically stated that if I sent money or anything to the house our friendship would be over. Whatayagonnado with a guy like this?

I'll be more than happy to call him my friend....anytime. By the way....his name is Ace.

Thanks Ace.

Passion runs deep in excellence; in life and in friendships.

Smart folks know that passion does not run selectively, and allow for it.

Bob, you're a good friend for ratting Ace out!

happy coaching!

Thanks Bob, but as you know, I really don't do wood floors! I have limited myself to doing JUST carpet over the last 15 or so years. As long as your happy and Jackie is happy with the job, then so am I but it could have been a better job with a better product! it's a very good looking floor but as you know some of the boards are warped which makes for cosmetic dysfunction!
I appreciate the kind words but I've always been that way, helping others whether I know what I'm doing or not! Heck just last week, I helped a band member put in a new round shower in his OLD house. Nothing was square so it made it hard to install. The job turned out pretty good and his whole family is now glad they can take hot showers. Me TOO!
I was glad to help you Bob. The weather was great and it really only took us about 7 hours total, if you think about it! Hey to me, it was only free time being spent with a friend! If I wasn't there with you, I would probably be doing something like reading this stuff! :-)

It was my pleasure to help you then, and anytime! Now enjoy your new floor and get busy with the rest of the bus!

Ace

PS I wish you wouldn't have posted it on the MAK board! Isn't that where 4-5 certain individuals voted against my return? LOL That could start another one of those specialty threads!

That is the very best part about being a busnut, the friends that step up & help out when you need it.

To me, that is what makes the journey more fun than the destination.

Congrats on the completion of the floor. Now you'll have to come up with a different excuse than, "I'll get to that right after I finish the floor" :-)

OK. Now that the floor's complete, and you got Ace's attention, what else needs to be finished?
Now's the time! Ace is a talented dude!
Post some pix of the floors!
You know you and Jackie got a place to throw out the anchor up here for as long as you want...if ya'll come back to North Carolina?

The Busnut world is certainly one of a kind in many ways and I am proud to be a part of it. I also belong to a motorcycle forum throttlejockey.co.uk (I have a Triumph motorcycle) and a Pontiac forum performanceyears.com (I have a GTO)
It seems to me that good things always come from camaraderie and friendship with those with similar interests. This is another great example of treating the other guy like you you would hope others would treat you.

Here's to Friendship, the "family" we choose.

I can't say how helpful and great these guys ('n gals) are since I started on the road last June, I've relied on the board a great deal and it's great members even more.

Let me tell you about how great NCBob is... at Arcadia I was going to buy this vintage chrome token box from a fellow named Montgomery (good friend of NCBob's) as I was starting to dicker with him, MYYYYYY GOOD FRIEND Bob jumped right in and bought it right out from under me. Now that's a friend! hehehehe... we've had many a good laugh over that one, eh Bob?

Doyle, you just don't realize what a favor I did for you in buying that token box. What none of us knew was that there was a curse attached to it....even Bob M. didn't know or he wouldn't have sold it...he would have buried it!

Once I found out I couldn't get rid of it fast enough! Now it's Cliff's problem and I pray for him every day.
