James, Eagle made a entertainer in the model 10 and 15 they had a raised 8in roof and most had a level floor with the driver area on the same elevation as the rest of the bus (called a high driver) but some where lower in the drivers area and they had a one piece door. The conversion were done by converters such as Night Train hope this helps, expample Hank Wiiliams Jr model 15 vin 70097 just post the last 5 digits of the vin # that will be all we need to tell you who the original owner

If the bus is 15 yrs old it can be imported into Canada ... don't import it as a commercial bus ... the rule you are looking at pertains to commercial buses ... import it as a RV. Last yr a friend imported 4 buses that were 15+ yrs old and were self converted or converted by companies not on the RIV list with no problem.

Hey guys, thats cool that you can look up the list by VIN number - Here is my VIN - any idea where it started life? # 1EUFC6Z16KB011002 Its also supposed to have started life as an entertainer 1989 Model 15... I would love to be able to find its history and eventually any log books that were kept for it.

Thanks,
John

PS: luvrbus - what is your name? or is that not proper to ask? its just easier to know who I'm talking to. You can email it to me if you prefer jconti@computing-associates.com - Thanks. John

John didn't that Eagle of yours belong to Wynn Silver in Lakeland, Florida? He might be able to shed some history about your bus your way!

I just spent about 45 minutes talking to RIV program and this is what they told me, if it was manufacured as a motorhome (entertainer), rather than a comercial bus then i would need a letter from the manufacuer stating it was a RV not a bus . it would be great if anyone or you Ron could find out how your friend did this and how he has registered them in Canada.

A few years ago I also spent a considerable on the phone with the RIV. The short of it was that it could not be done.
I would very much be interested also to learn the steps required to make this possible.

Joe.

Ace,

Yes this is Wynn's old bus. He gave me insight back two owners. One was the previous to him President of AMWAY and the one before that was I beleive a coach company - but he never got into that much. I actually saw the bus and bought it the next day - so I didnt spend too much time discussing history other then his time using it.

Skip,
Thanks for the web address. I will use a lot of finese when I contact them. I am happy with our Eagle and would only have good things to tell them. I think the best protocol would be to simply let them know I now own it and kindly request any info they can give me on it. You can't go wrong using a bit sugar to get some info from people...

Thanks to all. I love the new things we learn everyday on this board... Many thanks to Ian for keeping it going.

Ok ... This is the statue he is using, RIV states on page 7 of their PDF on their web site, on admissible vehicles ... it states:

"All Vehicles (expect busses) FIFTEEN YEARS OLD OR OLDER" All are admissible.

You see it's .... all in the language. It's not a bus it's a Prevost RV, it's "NOT A BUS" ... you never use the word "BUS". A bus is a commercial vehicle that has 48 seats. On the other hand an converted bus is an RV is not a commercial vehicle and doen't have 48 seats. He's never had a problem importing a converted bus 15 yrs or older.

He is not the only one doing this I know an other guy in Langley that is doing it also ... it's all in the language.

Oh and he never talks to RIV program.

Ron

I tried that argument Ron and was told when i register it the serial number comes up as being a Bus still not a Class A RV , thus telling me i would have to take the bus back to the US or scrap it. I guess i will have to look for pre 1971.

Ron thanks for your help,if there is a way to do it i am sure alot of us would be very thankful to you Ron, i do not understand why they even have the rule, you can buy a seated bus and bring it in ok and then spend a lot of time and money converting it and thats ok,but not one that is done already, if i was rich i think i might take the time and effort to take em to court over it lololo

Cheers

youd be surprised how often former owners are willing to chat and will actually remember the bus. my current bus toy was converted by Klein Brothers Coach of Nashville in 1990 and operated by Nite Train Coach for Garth Brooks. i called both Jay Klein and Chip Huffman(owner of Nite Train) and they both remembered blue very well. gave me all sorts of history on it and Chip actually asked me to send him pictures so he could see what she was doing today.

its always worth a try. most of these leasing company owners were very personally attatched to their fleet of Eagles.

Ron and James

I could see where this would work, if the serial number had been changed by a previous owner in the US and registered previously as an RV in whichever state it was registered.

On the Alberta registration form it has a line for the manufacturers name of the motorhome chassis.

If you want to import a certain vehicle into Canada, as has been said over and over...

You either get a guy who knows, and pay him to do it, or figure it out yourself, and do that figuring WITHOUT TALKING TO THE BUREAUCRATS.

There are lots of border brokers who specialize in vehicle and machinery imports. Find one and PAY THEM to solve your problem.

Here begins the rant:

Really, who would be so foolish to share their profitable income producing knowledge of the finer details of import regulation in this public forum?

As for those who are naively unknowing, why do you want to draw attention to yourself, or to those who successfully import these vehicles, by asking some low paid government paper processor an obscure question, about which they do not know, do not care, when their usual dealings are with used car sales people trying to "minimize their tax exposure", you are just another call, and their default answer will be "NO"?

You do realize that those folks are the same ones who you send your income taxes to, and the same ones who inspect your sorry behind at the border, and their job is to collect Her Majesty's taxes and duties and sniff out rule breakers and others who think they are smarter than Her Majesty's civil servants?

Go ahead and get yourself a red flag.

Just don't be getting someone else's butt into a sling.

Do you know which way the winds are blowing in the halls of government with regard to both individual attempts to import vehicles to Canada, as well as shady new comers trying to make a buck, with the currency exchange and US economy where it is now?

Once the amateurs get into the game, bragging and clucking about how they "beat the system", might not the feds, with the help of the financially harmed border brokers and the used vehicle sales lobby, regulate closed the "loop holes" that are becoming popularly known to individuals?

Here ends the rant.

happy coaching!
