I'm kind of curious as to what most of you are using in your Allison 740's and why. I'm using Dexron 3, but I see there are a lot of choices depending on temp., I would guess there should not be a problem with foaming, etc. if using a quality 10wt motor oil or some of the other options as listed by Allison, I'm just wondering why you would ? |

Rod,I use Transynd Oil in my 740 but at over 400 bucks I don't know if it is worth it or not.FWIW if you look at www.utxchange.com they have a list of all approved C4 oils on their web page.A friend of mine uses Cat transmission oil in his 740.With the Transynd mine does run 10 degrees cooler and shifts better but that is the same that I hear from guys using the 15/40 oil (Message edited by luvrbus on May 09, 2008) |

Every trans guy I talked to says to use synthetic, even the mechanics at Peter Pan Bus Lines, and they have alot of coaches. |

Synthetic Transyd is the best. Because the new World Transmissions are not as robust as the 740/750, it is a good investment to pay the extra money on those. Unless heat is a concern with your 740/750, Dextron is probably all that is necessary. Also, replacing a World Transmission is going to be more expensive than a 740. So, paying for the synthetic is kind of an insurance policy against having a problem. Ed Roelle |

Thanks guys, my trans is leaking a little fluid from the bellhousing, I'm not sure why yet but I thought I should perhaps consider a slightly thicker option if It's leaking from the converter. Don't think It would probably make much difference though....Rod |
