back in my class A days the main entrance door had a screen door attached -- you could open the hard door and leave the screen door closed or open both together. I'm having difficulty even imagining how to do that and have not been around any other bus owners to see ANY ways of having a screen door. I'd sure appreciate some thoughts on how'd you do that. ps I've a 4106 |

Have been dreaming about how to do that for a decade. Only thing I've seen is a curtain of screen material & weights that hang behind closed door , get brushsed aside enetring. Its pretty 3rd would looking but seems to keep some bugs out. Invent a new system , the whole world of busdome is hopeing! FAST FRED |

The Screen door system on an RV is involved with a pretty neet, simple hinge system AND a very straight and square door frame, something a bus does not have. the hinge is on the same hinge pin axis but is bent behind the door then out to hold the screen door unit. It is really very simple but requires a made up hinge. Perhaps a heavy piano hinge could be cut (to allow free swing from the door hinge) at a couple locations to allow the additon of the extra metal to attach to a screen door unit. then just a simple and very light aluminim door frame for the screen that will fit your bus opening (thats the trick, you gotta build it yourself). I have seen the screen door that FF mentioned and I don't see anything wrong with it other than it looks like a style from the cave man era. If you have enough screened windows, you may not have to worry about screening the door but some buses Ihave seen have really cut down on the windows and the windows that were installed were tiny at best. I hope it was planned that way with consideration of ventilation but I tend to think they missed the latter thought. If your main door will move far enough out of the way, you may be able to add an additional hinge inside the door frame, that is inside from the main door hinges to allow swing. Perhaps building up the hinge side of the screen door frame to allow free swing of the screen would work. A screen door is a nice thing but I would not add one if I have a very nice door interior that can be damaged by sun or rain, better to keep those kind of door closed., my offering - cd |

I recently went to a Home and Garden show and saw a screen door that was designed to go on patio doors. It looked kinda like a roller shade on its side. Rolled in and out as needed and stored in a 4-6" space on the side of the door jam of your choice. Seems that it or something like it could be used as at least a starting point for a bug barrier design. |

You will need a second door frame inside the main coach door. This is to hang the new custom aluminum door onto. The disadvantage is that you will have to open/close each door separately, each time you enter/leave. The Main/screen doors system on Class A's was hung together so you could open the main door and the screen opened at the same time. It ain't-a-gonna work that way with a bus door system though. Good Luck...JJ |

I am using a standard, high quality, RV door with included screen door. It is not as solid as a true bus door, but the price was right and the screen is a bonus. I fit the whole door and frame assembly right inside my existing door hole. Skinned over the excess space. Still big enough to get a mattress or fridge thru. Scott |

My wife wanted a screen door too, so I went out to my shop and made a bifold screen door which folds back against the bulkhead. I used piano hinge all along the wall mount and at the bifold in the middle for stability. Was actually pretty simple! |
