What do you avg. in mpg? If it's 8 then figure your total miles on the trip. Mapquest says 391.66 miles, divide by 8 is roughtly 49 gallons times price per gallon. Don't know the imperial equation.

Dave -

When I worked in the charter industry, we always figured fuel consumption based on 5 mpg for the MCIs. This was to avoid running out of fuel with a load of passengers, and included idle stand-by time.

If you've got the standard fuel tank in your MCI (144 US gallons), figure 125 of that is useable (100 if a diesel genset). At a conservative 5 mpg, that means fuel stops every 500 miles.

So, using that logic, for your 400 mile run, you'll use about 80 US gallons one-way.

Far better to guesstimate on the conservative side - repriming is NOT fun!

Have a good trip!

FWIW & HTH. . .

Thanks Guys; At about $5.30 a gallon this sounds like a $400.00 ouch, but like RJ says better to be safe with some extra. I could just imagine the fun of being on the side of the 401 out of fuel and haveing 10 day temporary permit in the window. I think the OPP would be looking over it like bees in a flower garden! Also the fuel tank runs cross way on the bus and if the tank gets to low you could run out going around a corner. I never let it get below a 1/4 tank.

And just think, if fuel continues to escalate, your extra will be cheap when diesel gets to $7.00 per gallon!

Bite the bullet and fill it up before you start. There'll be enough other things to be concerned about without worrying about running out of fuel. Take along a set of spare fuel filters and the tools necessary to change them, plus about 2 gallons of extra fuel in a jerry can to pre fill the new filters.Even if you can't change the filters yourself if it becomes necessary, the service guy won't have to run around finding a set of filters for it. You'll save it on the first road service call. Got a spare? Is it inflated to proper pressure?

fill the tank to the top. there reasons for this remark. this will help getting condensation in the tank. an empty tank draws in moisture when the tank cools, always keep your tank at least 1/4 full as your injectors require the cool fuel to cool properly and if you let the fuel level get to low it causes damage to the injectors. having a tank with low fuel sucks up the dirt and rust out of the bottom of the tank. when you get back from your trip refill the tank and at the rate furl is going up you will save money more ways that one. it is the shock of the first fill that gets you but if you always keep the tank full you are ready for the next trip.
