I put my house batteries in my MC9 forward in the space where the AC condenser was on the left side in front of the bays. I modified the screen protector for condenser to reduce the openess of it, but air can still get in and out. Is it alright to put the inverter in the same space or is that too dangerous. That is are inventers self contained enough not to throw a spark. Also could I put in a divider which has a seal around it between the batteries and the inverter, plan to use foam material used to insulate copper pipes in houses. |

You should have the inverter in a separate vented box or partion so the corrosive gases from the battery doen't kill your inverter. Ron |

Someone said I could use hydro caps without a partion, what is the oppinion on those also there a product called the water miser |

It is probobly ok to do. But is it worth betting your inverter on? |

I guess I am more worry about an explosion during charging and would a wood partition with foam seal, like the stuff used to insulate home plumbing be good enough. |

I would not be putting an inverter in any spot that can get moisture in.....good way to ruin it |

Ski, Inverters give off a lot of heat while charging, and while inverting. I wouldn't put an inverter near batteries for corrosion worries, as mentioned above, not where it can get wet, and where it gets lots of air. Cool inverters are happy inverters! G |

Putting an inverter in an adjoining compartment would keep it separate and still keep the wiring short. |

I can not put it in the next compartment, as the genset is there, think of putting a partition between Batts and inverter and susupending invert from the ceiling of compartment for more air, also blocking most of air holes to outside so it stays dry. Thanks for the advice everyone. |

I would isolate the batteries from everything else. Battery fumes are not good for a lot of things. The coolest air in the bay will be near the floor, the hottest near the roof. You want it dry, but not sure you want to stop air circulation from the compartment. Good luck Don 4107 |

The best solution is to isolate the inverter & it's air supply from the batteries & their air. The hydrocaps don't reclaim ALL the hydrogen & oxygen when working properly & when (not if) the catlyst dies, it won't reclaim ANY. |

Buy AGM batteries and don't worry about it, the initial cost is more but better batteries in the long haul no maintenance, corrosion and no gases (Message edited by luvrbus on June 11, 2008) (Message edited by luvrbus on June 11, 2008) |

AGM's do vent, it may be only a little in normal operation, but they do vent. One of mine in the Airstream vented plenty when it went bad & it was a few weeks before I noticed it. I'm going to persue using the AGM's for the bus house bank due to the reduced maintenance part of the equation, but you still gotta keep an eye on 'em. I'm also going to vent the isolated battery compartment to minimize future problems. |

Haveing used AGM on a boat I lived on I can attest they are very low maintenance but it is also very important that you have a charger that is designed for them. AGM and GEL use a different charging scheme than lead acid and if you try to charge them with a lead acid strategy you will be very disapointed with how they last. Tim |

Temperature effects battery life too, the cooler you can keep 'em, the longer they last . . . . For some reading pleasure ;) http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm#AGM,%20or%20Absorbed%20Glass%20Mat%20Batt eries |
