Not sure what this is for - will take a picture later if nobody can understand me... Here goes - I am working on the dash board, some lights dont work, etc. Around the dash is this plastic trim, looks like a sun shade for the gauges with a piece of weather strip around it. Kind of ugly to me - so I figure lets remove it. So I pull off the weather strip and go to drill the rivet and something slides, so I slide out the insert and it has wires attached to it. One on each end of the insert - Electric dash panel heater? Some sort of illumination that doesnt work anymore? Some sort of thermostat? I haven't a clue. Part numbers on the back scare me a little - they end in 115V 400Hz... But only have a small guage wire. I haven't pulled the dash panels yet to search where the wires go, but will be working on that over the weekend... As Always, all help is greatly appreciated! John |

115V 400Hz This is something that would be used in Aviation industry. |

I know my bus flies.... but not usually off the ground! could it be an antennae of sorts? it looks like it is all around the top edge of the dash. perhaps a noise filter? |

If you connect a 400 hertz device to 60 hertz, I can almost guarantee that you will let all the smoke out. Richard |

This is lighting and it runs off of the coach DC system most generally. I suggest you get your VOM out and find out why it is not working because it makes the dash look pretty cool when it is on and it lights up those items that are not normally lighted. I would repair it and use it! - Greg |

John, that is for back lighting of the dash on the model 15 and 20 if it doesn't work any more they are expensive to repair most people go with 12 v LED if they want back lighting of the dash easy to do (Message edited by luvrbus on June 26, 2008) |

I was thinking some sort of lighting... but it is a real flat cable and i didn't see LED's or other types of lights on it... I will trace the wires and see where they go. I have back lights on my guages some don't work - I am betting on grounding issues as the bulbs work in other guages. I will put the volt meter on them and see if there is juice in them. I am probably just going to remove them if they dont glow and take that trim off. Future project is a custom dash with things in easier to reach and see places and to remove all the original switches and dials that do nothing... Thanks, John |

Tim, thanks so much for finding a source for this. Guess it must come from England? I have been looking of this for well over 50 years. LOL Richard |

My 20 has a blue lite (one for each side) at the top of the dash. It may even be three or more pieces. The 20 also came factory with a 110 power inverter. Its possible they could have used the 120 V for back up dash lites. It would probably give enough lite to stop the bus from being put out of service if the dash lites were down. The 20 also has 2 blue parlor lites that send a message to maintence if they are not lit. I don't remember what. Has anyone ever seen a drivers handbook for the 20? |

That is the electro-luminescent lighting that Eagle used on the 15's and 20's. Pretty cool when it works, a PITA when it doesn't. |

Have I ever asked here why the British drink warm beer? The answer is that they use Lucas refrigerators! All of the electro-luminescent lighting uses an inverter and a transformer to provide enough voltage for it to operate. As Len says, neat when it works, when it doesn't, you are trouble shooting an oscillator circuit. Good luck, George |
