I have a 1980 mc9 with 8v71n and allison trans. Where we bought the bus they said it had ht-740 the shifter says ht-740rev on it. my ? is that it seems to shift 4 times. I am not up on the auto transmission setup. The other bus i had was a 1958 4104 with manual 4 speed. This bus I believe has been changed from the 4 speed manual because it has the Reverse solinod switch. It feels to shift at 10 mph, 20 mph, 30 mph, and 45 mph and runs out just shy of 80 mph. I read that the first shift that I feel could be convertor lockup. Any help, where would I find the model # on trans? |

Bigblock01, look on the drivers side about the middle of the transmission just above the oil pan and should be a tag |

Jason, It probably is a 740, and the SECOND shift you feel is the convertor lockup. it shifts 1-2, then lockup, then 2-3, etc. George |
