Today I put an exhaust brake onto my Crown - I found it at a junkyard up in Los Angeles...super easy install becuase it came out of an identical bus! I'm sure it won't work as well as a set of Jakes but it will work much better than nothing so I'm happy. That said.... Ok CROWN and GILLIG OWNERS check this out- this junkyard now has three Crowns and 5 Gilligs that were driven in directly from a school and parked for the last time, sold to the yard under scrap warranty!! More coming! They must all be dismantled for parts! I just spent an entire day nabbing tons of goodies for my Crown... anyone interested, email me and I'll tell ya who they are! It was a VERY sad thing... as I drove up to the yard (a two hour drive from my place) I passed two Crowns going the same way. They both had "School" painted over with black paint, and female drivers. I had a horrible suspicion that I'd see them again, and it was true... about half an hour after I arrived at the junkyard, one of the two Crowns pulled in and parked, and out stepped the gal with a very sad look on her face. I approached her, asked what was up, and she said, almost in tears, "my bus for the last 10 years... took kids to school with it yesterday and today was it's last trip". Evidently the school is replacing every one of their busses with new ones, and there's some kind of connection with California laws that requires them be taken off the road permanently. Drat... these busses are ALL in much better shape than mine, but alas, to the shredder they go! Geez, perfect, beautiful well maintained busses...aargh... Cheers Gary |
