From Busride magazine's e-mail news service: Gillig Corporation sells to Henry Crown & Co. Gillig Corporation, San Francisco, CA, a manufacturer of public transit buses, announced it has sold to Henry Crown & Co., operating under CC Industries, Inc. Gillig says in its statement, the new partnership is a perfect match that will allow the OEM to continue to focus on its long-term goals of greater customer satisfaction, better products, improved relationships and higher productivity. The Gillig Corporation dates back to 1890 with the company’s founding in San Francisco as a builder of buggies and carriages. The factory burned during the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, but soon rebuilt and began producing early models of buses. Today Gillig is the second largest producer of transit buses in North America, building heavy-duty transit buses that range from clean-emission diesel to its current investigations into propulsion technology for future generations. Henry Crown and his brothers started their business in Chicago, IL, in 1919. Today CC Inc. operates under the parent Henry Crown & Co., with a diverse group of businesses from the Aspen Skiing Company to Bush Hog farming equipment and Great Dane Trailers happy coaching! buswarrior |

Wonder how long it will be before Gillig becomes a memory like Crown Coach. . . When the family sold Crown to General Electric, it was the beginning of the end. Deja vu all over again? FWIW. . . |
