Nice looking bus. Amazing how much older it looks that the 4104s that are actually older? I like the old look, my favorite is the PD3751/451. I almost had one but was too slow!! |

Hi James, I have 1951 TDH that was converted in the late 70's. Do you know where wiring diagrams and or manuals for these buses can be found? |

Hello JamesB. Thanks for sharing! Regarding the windshields, perhaps a previous owner flush mounted them? Or does it look like they were always that way? The tilt accomplishes two things, keeps the glare from the interior lights minimized at night, and gives that great ram air at the top of the windshield to the interior. happy coaching! buswarrior (Message edited by buswarrior on September 02, 2008) |

Gosh it sure is great to see some of these old timers! When I visited Coach Maintenance north of Sacramento he had a bunch of them. What history! Here's some pics. http://community.webshots.com/user/Dreamscapeeagle |

I've been told it is a 3612. Is there an id type tag on the bus somewhere? I don't have any manuals or literature at all, so I don't know much about it. It's still fun trying to figure out how it's supposed to work, even without info. |

James, the front windshields have me baffled - everything else is consistent with a transit built that late (paired windows). When I started driving (TDH 4509's and 4512's), slanted windshields were the norm. As previously mentioned, GM went to the slanted windshields to eliminate glare from the interior lights. I wasn't aware of anything with vertical windshields after the Yellow Coach, and maybe early GM (GM bought Yellow) days. I just emailed a copy of the picture to a friend who may be able to shed some light on the windshields (so to speak). You may also want to go to the Motor Bus Society website, http://www.motorbussociety.org/ - to do some additional research. Arthur |

James, heard back from my contact. He thinks the windshields were pushed out by a previous owner, last time for factory flat windshields was 1940-41. He also stated that he's seen this before in motor home conversions. Sounds like they did a good job. Hope this helps. By the way, I've been following this thread because I started driving GM old looks, and I've been casually looking for a seated 4512 in good condition (since that's probably impossible, it won't compete for funding with our update to the conversion on our PD4107.) Just another possibility to consider, an accident, fairly late on? Alco (American Locomotive Co.) went out of business in 1968. A couple of years later, a rear end collision occurred, and a C628 Alco got a GE U28 nose. Sure had a lot of rail fans wondering, and ended up being very well photographed. Looks like a great job!
