Hello all,
is there any adjustment to eliminate chatter from the release of the pedal to engage the clutch? Bus shifts good, goes in to gear real easy from free wheeling neutral,to first, just seems to chatter. Bus is empty at present.
Thanks n advance and sure appreciate all the imput ya'll so willingly give on a plethera of great topics! JB

sounds like your clutch has a problem, grease or oil on the face, warped, or worn out. some times you can slip the clutch and glaze the contamination and eliminate the chatter

Are you feeding the clutch from idle or using rpms to take off from rest. Too many rpms will cause the clutch to chatter.
Big commercial clutches normally pull away on idle and then you feed the rpms in as soon as the clutch is engaged.

peter is correct if it is chattering when you take off at an idle than you have a clutch problem

FIND someone brave and have him watch closely as you pull away , it could only be loose or broken engine mounts.

OR have a go with a big prybar , and see if anything moves.

as ff says take off the inspection cover under the clutsh or lookin the round hole on the tranny and check each finger of the clutch with a pry bar to check if you have any broken clutch springs. just put the tranny in nuetral with the motor stopped and turn the fly wheel with a pry bar and check each finger to see how stiff each one is also chech how much clearance you have between the finger and the throwout rearing they should all be evenabout 1/16 clearance. if some one has over greased the throw out and you have grease on the clutch face some times you can get a lot of it of by having some one depress the clutch pedal and the hole it in while you spray the fly wheel face and presure plate real good with a good brake cleaner do it 2 or 3 times this some times helps mel 4104

Another source of chatter can be worn or missing control, or radius, rod bushings on the rear end. Check for fore and aft movement of the rear wheels on takeoff. New bushings took care of the chatter on my 04.

Thanks for all the great responses! The chatter is probably better described as the bus viberating pretty heavilly ie.sides and things loose in the interior of the bus. The advice about taking off at idle did work really well! I will continue to look into all these ideas. once again thanks again for all your help! JB
